Stay and Learn Grant

Hi, I graduated a few months ago and got a job where I did my consolidation. I sent the verification of employment forms to nslsc and my forms were rejected saying there were two problems:

  1. I wasn't employed in the region I was studying in..but I am and just reconfirmed with OSAP website that it was valid. I got hired in Queensway carleton hospital.

  2. I found out that there is another condition besides region:

You must complete your service commitment with an employer (or employers) that are broader

public sector organizations, or an organization which operates on a First Nations reserve or

primarily serves First Nations, Métis or Inuit communities.

Is Queensway carleton hospital not considered public sector organizations?!?

Has anyone's stay and learn grant been converted to loan despite finding a job in the region you studied in?

I'm worried because I have to resubmit the forms before the deadline in two weeks.

RPN to RN briding

Hello,

I graduated from practical nursing in Janurary 2026 and passed the nclex. Im currently working as a nurse and looking to apply to the rpn-rn bridging at st Lawrence college. I dont see anything for August 1, 2026 - July 31, 2027 cycle. Does anyone know when st Lawrence college application start date is? I cant find anything on their website.

Has anyone who did the Cambrian College nursing transformative program applied to St. Lawrence College advance standing into Year 5? I would like to know if they would accept the bridging courses when applying

Verification of Employment form Ontario learn and stay grant

Hi, anyone successfully submit their Verification of Employment form to the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC)? I called they told me to submit it through loan forgiveness.

But for the date I put in it keeps on giving me this error "Your loan forgiveness period end date, which ends exactly one year after your loan forgiveness period start date, cannot be in the future".

Forgot to give handoff report

I forgot to give handoff report to the night nurse for one of my patients. It's my third shift off orientation. I can't believe I did this. I got home 1 hour after and remembered. Called the hospital unit to give a verbal report. I didn't give the best one from memory and forgot a few information now that I'm overthinking. I'm back tomorrow morning day 3 and I will have the same patients. How bad is this? Will I lose my licence. Should I self-report to my manager or charge nurse when I go in tomorrow morning.

I had a very hard time at the end of my shift with a patient's family. I was overwhelmed at the end. My patient has dementia/bpsd and was being verbally aggressive and resisting care and medications. I reapproached them multiple times during my shift for care. Tried to redirect, reassure the patient and explain the reason for care. They accepted the medications after redirection and reapproach method. However patient kept refusing personal care and was threatening to get physically aggressive if I touched them. I got another staff member to try to reapproached her for care and see if they would be receptive to them for care but they were still refusing and continuing to be agitated and verbally aggressive. I documented the refusal and reapproach attempts.

Patient daughter came in and was upset saying she called twice and left a message. Why I didn't respond back. She received a call from her mother crying saying I'm negligenting her. I didn't receive any message or call during my shift from the daughter or family member. No clerk was scheduled, so no phone calls were being transferred to us. I didnt know this and I don't know why there wasn't a clerk scheduled on the unit. Patient daughter says there is a note on file to call her when patient is refusing medication or personal care multiple times. She questioned and insisted why I didn't look at the note on file. I look in all previous documentation and there is no documented note or communication regarding calling her after multiple refusal attempts. I didn't know what more to say to the patients daughter and froze on the spot for this when she asked and insisted why. She questioned what training I went through for patients with dementia. I explained to her that I and other staff has reapproached her multiple times during the shift. The patient refused and was agitated and verbally aggressive. The patient has a right to refuse and has the right to autonomy. I can not forced care on her. First line is to redirect, reapproach and reassess. Second would be to give prn. The third line is restraint which is the last thing and you need an order for this. Daughter was not satisfied with explation. She started to ask what would I do if that was my mother and my mother was sitting in urine all day... Charge nurse stepped in. They told me next time to let them know regarding multiple refusals.

Daughter agreed to stay and be present while doing personal care for patient. Patient was calm and cooperative infront of daughter.
