So I purchased because a few friends in a Discord I'm in were talking about Vein, it was part of the Summer Steam Sale, so the price was really good when I got it.
Last night was the first time I booted it up, had 2 friends jump in with me and honestly, aside from the comments about the game made in Discord, I went in completely blind. No trailers were watched, didn't look at images, didn't even read any patch notes. I didn't know what to expect but I'm pleasantly surprised.
The game itself has some issues, I first noticed clipping of clothes, some wonky jumping, and the zombies. Yeah I have now noticed Zombie design is a common topic but even with that it didn't take me out of the experience. Wandered around, looted, killed some zombies, and found my friends after about 30 minutes of solo exploring. The games systems feel amazing, the amount of options, the builds available, the crafting, cooking, medical, all of it is a big system so its cool to see everything you can do.
World. The world has realistic POI's nothing that looked too crazy but I haven't explored all the areas. I do like that outside of the zombies the world looks alive, I've seen wildlife, various plants, and weather changes. I would like to see more houses, but It may also just be when I spawned it, it is more rural so it does fit having spaced out houses. Overall I like the world but one thing I've noticed is a lot of houses being full of junk boxes like they are still being built, thats fine but I've ran into a bunch with just these junk boxes being the main searchable items.
Combat. The combat to me needs a little work. I think more feet back on weapons is needed. I get a slicing, weapon like a knife not necessarily giving lots of feedback on a Zed, but a blunt weapon like a bat, oar, or rake should cause some pushback or stun. Sometimes ill swing the bat, and the zombies are still able to hit me instantly after a successful hit. Sometimes its also hard to tell you hit a zombie which leads you to swinging more. Some better visual feedback on a successful hit would be nice. Guns feel decent nothing to crazy with them, fairly standard mechanics, I am playing a gun build so they feel good. Headshots put them down, overall i feel the guns do good damage but not too powerful so balance feels nice. Bows kind of feel odd to me though. Im still having not arrows appearing when I knock the bow, I have seen its not a priority fixing because its a place holder so no biggie. The bow damage feels off though, I headshot some zombies and it didnt drop them. Id headshot another and it would go down. Seems a little inconsistent so it would be nice to see it performs more consistently.
Performance. Overall I didnt have any issues, it was easy to load in, create my character, run around the map and start playing. I have now read large hoards can cause issues but I haven't run into any yet. Its been pretty smooth so far but I may notice some more issues the more I play.
Im happy with the game, im excited to see where it goes, and after being on the sub, checking patchnotes, its apparent the devs are interested in making this game better over time. The updates have been consistent, they add value to the game, and bugs are getting regularly fixed. The summer sale is over but even at $20, the value is there. I hope this game gets the attention it deserves cause I have had a fun time and am looking to Crack some more heads. Solid 7/10.
Hello, just joined the sub as i have reacently went on a sardine kick. What are some affordable options that taste great? I have only tried a few different brands but enjoyed Seasons sardines in olive oil and enjoyed them with white rice. Not opposed to the high end cans but im looking at something i can have a few times a week as a cheap lunch/ helping me get protein macros in. Any recomendations on what i should try im down for!
