Marathon shoe rotation advice: Adidas Evo SL, Hoka Mach X2, Superblast 3 or Vomero Plus ?

Hi,

I’m building my shoe rotation for a marathon training and would love some advice.

Current situation:

  • I currently have a pair of Hoka Mach X2 with around 400 km on them. They’re not new anymore but still some life on it, so I’m thinking of using them only for shorter runs under 8 km.
  • I recently bought the Adidas Adizero Evo SL at 50% off (i don't know yet if i should use it as daily trainer or raceday shoe).
  • My current easy/base pace is around 5:50 min/km to 6:15 min/km.
  • My marathon is on October 11, and my goal is sub 4 hours.
  • I also plan to run an official half marathon halfway through my marathon training block.

My usual training includes:

  • Easy/base runs: 40–60 min around 5:50/km to 6:15 min/km.
  • Sprint sessions.
  • Threshold runs.
  • Long runs.

My questions:

  1. Can the Adidas Evo SL realistically work as my marathon race day shoe for a sub 4 goal ?
  2. If I use the Evo SL for tempo/threshold workouts during training, will I wear it out too much before race day ?
  3. I’m considering the ASICS Superblast 3 or Nike Vomero Plus (Still hesitating between these two), does it works with the rotation ?
  4. Would a carbon plated race shoe be worth it for my marathon, or is the Evo SL good enough ?
  5. What would be the best shoes rotation for my marathon training based on my current shoes and goal ?

Thanks,

Why are most small-cap growth stocks non-compliant on Shariah screeners ? How much should we trust these apps ?

Hi Brothers,

I’ve been trying to find small stocks with strong growth potential, especially smaller tech companies, quantum computing companies, AI-related companies, Energy etc.

What I noticed is that many big brands and large cap companies are often marked as Shariah-compliant, but a lot of smaller high-growth companies are marked as non-compliant or questionable.

I’m trying to understand why this happens. Is it mainly because these smaller companies have too much debt, too much interest income, unstable revenue, or because their financial ratios are harder to screen ? We all know that the biggest growths we can get in investing come more from small potential stocks than big ones.

Also, how much should we trust Shariah stock screener apps like Zoya, Musaffa etc.? Do you treat them as reliable enough to make decisions ?

I’m especially interested in how people approach small-cap growth stocks, because many of them seem to have high potential but fail Shariah screening.

Thanks And Djumuaa Mubaraka !

Broil Mate 2 Burner vs Expert Grill 3 Burner propane BBQ - which is better for a small family ?

Hi,

I’m looking for advice between two budget propane gas BBQs:

1- Broil-Mate 2-Burner Propane BBQ

2- Expert Grill 3-Burner Propane BBQ

We are two adults and one 4 year old child, so most of the time we’re cooking for a small family. We rarely host people. Occasionally, we might have up to 3 guests, but almost never more than that.

Our goal is not to buy a premium BBQ right now. We’re looking for something affordable but reliable enough to last around 3 to 5 years with normal care.

We mostly want to cook things like: skewers, steaks, lamb chops, sausages, chicken, simple weekend BBQ meals.

I’m leaning toward the Broil Mate 2 burner because it seems simpler and maybe more durable, but the Expert Grill 3-burner has more cooking space and is also very affordable too.

I also considered a portable Weber Q1200, since Weber has a great reputation, but I’m not sure if the portable format makes sense for our needs.

For a small family that only hosts occasionally, which one would you choose and why ?

Thanks !

Confused about Heart Zones - Zone 2 ?

Hi,

How heart zones works on Garmin, im confused that my easy pace (conversational) is on Zone 3, if my moderate/ fondamental pace is mostly in Zone 3 how it is possible that my essy pace is aswell in Zone 3 ?
i mean at this rate i should just walk to get in Zone 2 !

Are there an exercice or something to recalculate my zone rates ? Just to be sure that its accurate,

Shoe recommendation for long easy runs : Asics Superblast 3 or Nike Vomero Plus ?

Hi,

I’m currently building my shoes rotation while training for a marathon in October, and I’d like some advice.

So, right now I have:

Hoka Mach X2, i use it for tempo runs. It’s about 1 year old (about 500km on them), so not super fresh anymore, but I think it can still handle shorter tempo runs under 8 km.

Adidas Evo SL, I bought this recently for 50% reduction. I don’t plan to use it as a daily trainer. I want to keep it mostly for occasional faster long tempo runs and race days (i don't see myself investing in super fast shoes since its expensive and my goal is to do sub 4 marathon and not a more advanced goal).

What I’m missing is a shoe for long easy runs. My longest runs right now are still under 15 km, but over the next few months they will get longer as I continue marathon training.

I’m hesitating between ASICS Superblast 3 and Nike Vomero Plus.

Which one would you recommend for long easy runs in this rotation?

I’m looking for something comfortable and protective (prevent injuries, last automn i did 25km with my hoka mach x2 and ive got injured, had to stop running for almost 2 month) for marathon training, not necessarily another fast shoe.

Thanks,

Hi,

I’m 34M and I’ve never invested before. Better late than never, I guess. I finally feel confident and ready to start.

I have about $100k to invest, and after doing some research, I’m thinking about a portfolio along these lines:

55% ETFs, 40% individual stocks, 5% penny stocks / higher-risk

I’d really like to hear from people who started investing later than they wished they had. What was your experience like ? What mistakes did you make early on, and what would you do differently ?

Also, if you had $100k to invest today, how would you invest it ?

I’m not looking for financial advice, just trying to learn from others’ experiences and perspectives.

Thanks !

Hi,

I've been running for almost 1 year, and now that I've decided to run a marathon in 5 months. I have Hoka Mach 2s that I've been using for all my runs for about 8 months. I felt like I needed a second pair for long runs so I can alternate.

I was looking on Reddit to see what people like, while also checking which long-run shoes are on sale or affordable online. I found the Puma MagMax at $155 (CAD), and the ASICS Superblast 2 at $250 (CAD) new or $90 (CAD) used in good condition.

My easy pace is between 6:00/km and 6:30/km, my base pace is 5:20/km to 5:50/km, and my 5K pace is between 4:50/km and 5:10/km. I already did few Semis not official at my easy pace. My goal is to run a sub-4:00 marathon.

Which long-run shoe would work best with my pace and training goal ? It would be my long-run shoe, not my raceday shoe.

If you have any other affordable options in mind, please share them with me.

Thanks,
