Should I read the book?

Watched the show for the first time last week and absolutely LOVED it and have already re-watched it. However, I've never read the book. Does the book give a lot more detail than the show? Is it worth the read & does it add extra sparkle to the story for someone who loved S1? Would be interested to read it if it gives even more color to mary & Tom's interactions & Toms backstory. Thanks!

Quit it with the Mealtrains, new parents! Especially if you don't even hang out with your friends anymore!

Does anyone else think the expectation to participate in Mealtrains for new parents is getting ridiculous?? Especially if you've shown up in other ways in the past (and they probably haven't shown up for you?)

For context, my husband & I have two friends that we used to be closer to (more acquaintences now), who just had their second baby. They absolutely have no business having a second child, as they could hardly afford the first one, but thats neither here nor there.

With baby #1, we did the mealtrain, gave gifts, happily went to the shower, wanted to be supportive, the whole nine yards. Now with Baby #2, we have hardly seen these friends in the last year or so. The wife in particilar used to be in group chats with me and our other girlfriends, but does not respond to anything in the group chat anymore, maybe will respond once every 6 months, never shows up to hang out with us. I turned 30 a couple months ago and she RSVPd "maybe" to the celebration, and then no-showed with no follow up, no communication, etc.

Tell me why we're being asked to cook a meal for their Mealtrain and the freaking husband is reminding people IN PERSON to sign up for it??? That is the tackiest thing I have ever heard. That's like saying "hey by the way my bday is coming up, it's not too late to get me a present!" So embarassing.

The Mealtrains are just too much. I can understand your CLOSE family & friends participating in one, but not us - who have hardly been in touch with y'all since you became parents in the first place, It's tacky and overkill. And yes I know this mom is probably rightfully overwhelmed and busy, but has shown no desire to show up for any of us in our circle of people since becoming a parent.

**EDIT for everyone asking in the comments**: A Mealtrain is basically a Gofundme for bringing food to people. You sign up for a certain night of the week & note what you'll bring the family.
