Trade VB for a hyper blue STI?
I’m seriously considering trading in my stock 22 limited VB WRX (55k miles, paid off) for a 2016 limited edition hyperblue STI (32k miles). I’ve owned the VB since new. The hyperblue has had 2 previous owners and full maintenance history. Oil changed every 6 months or 3k whichever came first. It’s stock except for catback. I originally wanted an STI but just missed out on the opportunity. I do love the VB but if I keep it. I’m going to do a full paint match, wing, light performance mods, ohlins, catback, and probably UEL even though I know they are inefficient I don’t care. I’ll still hit my power goals and The rumble is one of the best things about a Subaru. So cost wise I’ll probably end up spending a bit more if I keep the WRX.
This is my daily. I have kids but they rarely ever ride in the car, though I’d like for that to change. I test drove the STI and did not think the ride was too harsh.
The interior on the VB is definitely nicer. I don’t mind the screen as much as most other people. The STI is not bad by any means and I can swap an aftermarket unit in for CarPlay.
Looks wise. I also personally think with a full paint match like pictured in the post the VB can look as good as a VA if not better in SOME aspects (blasphemy!), though the shape of the fenders (esp rear) looks a bit off still. I love the taillights.
I’ve always had fomo for not getting an STI and after test driving I really loved the car. I do think the VB could potentially get there if I did all the mods I want to it.
Reliability is definitely important. On one hand if the STI motor goes I can get an IAG block and have no worries (?) and on the VB it’s the trans swap. Not sure if either would necessarily happen but seems like it may be a wash?
If I buy it and realize it was a mistake I have up to 10 days to change my mind FWIW.
Has anyone gone from a VA STI to VB or vice versa that can help give me some opinions or insight i may not be considering?
Bonus points if anyone owned this car or knows the previous owner(s) car is in FL.
