You wouldn’t download UEL headers

Sooo the guys at ATLAS are releasing this on Sunday. This is insane. May finally have the answer for those of us wanting the rumble but anxious about the reliability and performance trade off.

Is the VB a good car for a beginner manual driver?

I’ve been looking to get a brand new car and decided on the vb a little while ago. I originally decided on the limited trim level with the CVT, but I’ve recently been very interested in getting a manual, most likely the premium trim level to save some money. And a manual just seems like the right option for a wrx.

I’m just curious on the ease of driving a vb manual and if it’s a good starter for a beginner. I have a decent understanding of a manual transmission but have no experience actually driving one. My brother knows manual and will go with me to test drive it for me and teach me to drive it. Just wanna know from owners should I get one with the manual or just opt for the cvt?

Car turned instrument

On a scale of 1 to start parting out, how boned am I? Haven’t touched anything under the hood in terms of modifications. Everything else is working fine. Before this happened I was in stop and go traffic for 30 minutes and it was raining.

GYEON ceramic rim coating

Figured it was worth another 60 bucks and 12 hour cure time before installing the wheels.

Needed to scratch that V8 itch

Hopefully this will take the temptations of adding go-fast parts and tuning the WRX. Now I can confidently say it is my daily driver.

1985 El Camino, Chevy 350 with a four barrel, rebuilt trans with a shift kit (has the hurst his and hers shifter), bought it as an impulse. Needed a V8 back in my life.

Impressive gas mileage

I’m definitely not helping stereotypes with this car as well, I drive like a stupid teenager most of the time. Even if the vb’s are generous with their fuel usage estimate it’s done great.

HKS Type S Duckbill

Does anyone here have the HKS duckbill? I’ve been pouring over different spoiler options since May, and this seems to be my favorite.

I haven’t seen a single post about it (I know it’s pricey), so I’m just curious if anyone here has experience with it.

I’m fine with the idea of taking to get painted if it is of higher quality than JDM/AFD options.

TIA

Grease your Clutch Fork

So.. I’ve had a squeaky clutch pedal only when I am depressing the pedal. I’m pretty sure this is a common WRX thing because of moisture entering from the TMIC and the area of the clutch fork directly beneath. I removed my intercooler and noticed some brown sentiment (looked like a lot of dirt and old grease) on top of the clutch fork area . I wiped that area off and reapplied white lithium grease to this area. While reapplying grease, with a q-tip, red grease remained beneath the contact point. I continued adding grease, depressing the pedal, getting crafty with keeping the clutch all the way down and add some more grease, and depressing the pedal some more. The squeak is now gone.

Pro tip for making the premium seats a bit more roomy

After 7k miles the premium seats just started bugging me all of a sudden.

Unzip the back of the seats and unhook this fixed lumbar garbage. Highly depends on your body but for me it’s so much more comfortable. Feels like there’s more room on the seat for my long legs now.

It looks easy to put back in if needed but I figure I’d get a pillow or something if it’s bugging me. I’ve got a lengthy drive tomorrow to fully test it out. 🫡

Anyone ever wave at/get waves from other JDM car drivers

Pulled up behind a 350z at red light for on ramp. The guy took off fast and I tried keeping up for a little bit. No racing and both drove at reasonable speeds as we got on the freeway.

He got off before me and as I passed we waved at eacother. Something similar happened once with an old modded civic.

Just curious if this is something that happens with others too. I think it's pretty cool

Who says our car isn’t efficient? (31.4 mpg)

My car got 31.4 mpg on a 1300 mile trip from NY to Maine, down to Providence, RI, and then back to NY! I was quite impressed. I did the same NY-ME trip three years ago and only got 30.4 mpg.

Back to the track

Went back to the track. Improved my time by two seconds. I also bought a mic for my insta360. Here’s a clip of one lap.

Sloppy shifter

Hi all,

Bought my ‘26 premium HK this May, and after 6,200 miles I’m ready to admit the shift action is a bit clunky. What are some good options to clean it up? Been seeing many posts on this and just want to crowdsource best options.

Mainly talking about 1-2, but other gears could use help too.

Is STI short shifter the go-to?

Thanks!

edit: Thank you all for the great information. Glad I joined a great community

Spare Tire Cover / Trunk Deck

Yet another spare tire related post. 🤣 Here is my $172 solution. The new trunk deck is made from one 8’ long piece of 1x12 utility grade white wood ($20 from HD) cut into two 34.25” pieces and the remainder cut to align with that section of the foam spare tire well insert (used as a template). The spare tire came from a 2017 sti and was $92 w tax and shipping purchased off eBay. The jack was $44. The bolt and washer for the spare was $15 from the dealer. The bolt was about a 1/4” too long so I added a rubber washer on top to take up some slack. I already had an extra tool bag for the jack, jack handle, tire iron, etc. Note the two 3/4” high shims (1.25” square) I fastened on each side of curved section to semi align top with adjacent piece of decking. 1/2” would’ve been a better shim height. I like having three sections as I can flip up the section closest to the back and access the well without removing the other two sections.
