What is the best governed city/province in China?

Which province or city in China has had the best local government in terms of development and quality of life improvement?

It seems like Shenzhen and some of the divisions in Southern Jiangsu like Wuxi and Suzhou would rank very highly (great infrastructure, good GDP per capita). Clearly the leadership there must've done well with execution

How is it like living in Henan province, China?

Here is what I know about Henan province.

- Very highly populated

- Low GDP per capita

- Faces a lot of hate on the internet

<the top three makes me think, there are a lot of parallels between Henan and the Indian state of Bihar if anyone is familiar>

- Known for fairly friendly and hardworking people

- The Iphone is assembled in Zhengzhou, the capital of this province

- Some historical stuff

I've been improving my Japanese a lot. Ideas for meeting (and possibly dating) people outside of the international / expat scene?

I (27M) moved to Tokyo for a remote job at an international company, and have been taking a lot of intensive private lessons for spoken Japanese, and the results are finally showing. I can speak at a fairly solid level now. I want to socialize and meet people (and maybe even date) outside of the international / expat scene (so far my socializing was mainly with other foreigners at places like HUB or LITTS, or with Japanese people who also come to international parties and the likes).

As to why I'm not just searching online and asking here, my written Japanese is still poor.

Any ideas/tips?

Whats it like living in Wuhan?

Putting aside the infamy it got due to covid, what's it like living in Wuhan? I know its a big transport hub and the GDP per capita is pretty decent, though not an HQ for many companies compared to other T2 Chinese cities

Are people, especially women, who are single in their 30's becoming more picky cause its becoming easier to pass the time and live a content life without a partner?

in NYC, I've gone on a lot of dates with women in their 30's (I am 28) , and what I notice is a lot of these women who remain single till that age are not the type to feel a need for a relationship. They travel a lot, have a lot of hobbies, focus on friends and family, and it feels like they usually aren't interested in a second date unless they really really like how the first one went. Most of the women who aren't super picky are already taken by age 30.

Does this hypothesis hold merit?

Retiring in Kanagawa or Saitama with assets of JPY175M at age 30?

I got laid off at my tech company in the US (3rd time in the past 3 years) and I'm honestly sick of AI and the tech industry in general.

Luckily, I have a bit over USD 1M in assets (I lived at home for a few years and saved my $200k salary into investments). I also have Japanese PR (I spent two years working in Tokyo as an engineer and got it through the HSFP program).

If I want to retire and live well within an hour or so of Tokyo on these assets, could I do it? I wouldn't mind doing some freelance contracts, or potentially getting another job as well if the working conditions are nice and the work was meaningful, but I def don't want to work for a few years and need to face the possibility of never reentering the workforce again

Luxury hotel recs under USD120 a night, in Tier 2+ cities right next to a metro station.

I want to do a chill vacation in China where I go and stay for a week in a 4 or 5 star hotel (cause its crazy cheap there). I've been to China before, this is more of a rest and relaxation and a "see what its like outside of Beijing and Shanghai trip". I'm looking for hotels with modern interiors and finishes, a solid gym, a great view, and ideally a pool. But I also want it to be right next to a metro station

Cities I am targeting include Qingdao, Chongqing, Chengdu, Nanjing, and Shenzhen. Open to others as well. I saw that Nanjing and Chengdu hotels were very cheap in particular

I'm applying for tech jobs in Japan, but more on the business side (think product manager, technical program manager, solutions architect, IT consultant etc). These roles are at larger, international companies, and they mention requiring fluent Japanese (sometimes they specify N2 or N1).

I learnt Japanese by taking intensive 1:1 speaking lessons for a year, so I can speak business Japanese. Since I didn't focus much on Kanji, I never took JLPT (My Kanji level is prob N4). I don't anticipate actually needing to know much Kanji in the workplace, since I can use translate tools to help me with digital documentation and messages.

On my resume all I did was say I was business proficient in Japanese. Will companies ask me for certifications in JLPT? Some consulting firms, like BCG, Bain, and McKinsey, state on the application that non-natives will be asked to show an N1 certificate, so I didn't apply there. Not sure if other companies will ask as well, even if they didn't explicitly ask for it

I'm 27M and have used Hinge extensively in both locations, in the Bay Area a year ago and in NYC now. I am in tech, but not a software engineer. Indian American, I only swipe on Indian, East Asian, and White women (personal preference), and women ages 25- 31

I get way, way more matches in NYC (over 200 on Hinge) compared to the Bay area (maybe 50), or in Austin where I lived before that. Here are some other observations.

- NYC had a higher match to first date ratio

- Bay area had a higher first date to second date ratio

- Women in NYC would often not want a second date unless the first one went absolutely amazing.

- The whole "guys are weird in SF" isn't grounded in reality. They're fine. Maybe not quite as charismatic as men in NYC, but still, they have hobbies, are nice, and can hold a conversation (and its not always about tech). But most guy do work in tech though, I don't see how that in and of itself is a bad thing

- Dating in NYC was more expensive, since in SF I could always suggest a hike as a first date (NYC has great parks but they can take a long-ish subway ride to get to)

- I want to say the quality of women I matched with in both places were fairly similar (well educated, physically fit, travelled a decent amount)

- NYC suffers from the fact that since both genders have an incredible number of options and see really good looking or successful people on a daily basis, it psychologically leads to people wanting that and not willing to "settle". Its as if people in SF feel "sparks" better than in NYC.

Anyway, thats my take. Happy to answer questions.
