A police car exploded outside the store. Pure chaos. Edit: This was in nyc and no it was not a cybertruck, it was a police car

Sidelined in my own store

Had to work with two borrowed partners today and oh my god I was stressed the entire shift. It felt like “too many cooks in the kitchen” except nobody was on the same page. They were doing EVERYTHING differently and in some cases just straight up wrong and I genuinely felt alienated in my own store.

I close here 5 out of 7 days. I know where everything goes, how we run things, etc. But the entire store got turned upside down and every time I tried to fix something or put stuff back where it belonged I basically got shoved aside like “don’t worry about it.”

Meanwhile the sm kept moving stuff around. Inclusions on the register. Matcha at warming. Lid holder at handoff. Syrups left by the sink for hours. The mobile order station literally taken apart so drinks were just randomly scattered across the counter. Cold bar fridge completely empty while every ingredient was somehow on the opposite side of the store. The lobby packed up 2 hours before closing with customers confused why they couldn’t sit down. I ended up spilling inclusions inside the cash drawer because they left them open and in the way. WHY??

Maybe this works elsewhere (I’m intrigued on other opinions), I dunno, but my store was NOT compatible with whatever tomfoolery she had going on 😭

One regular literally came up to me disgusted asking why everything was dirty looking and girl- I DIDN’T KNOW WHAT TO SAY!! And then the SM took over the whole lobby saying she’ll flex the front, and I got told to do the trash run.

Every time I tried to help or explain “hey we usually do it like this here” they’d just go “no.” It felt like I couldn’t even touch anything because I’d be messing up their system.

I know borrowed partners are useful and I actually think the system itself is helpful, but oh my god if you’re gonna come into another store please do not completely bulldoze the people who actually work there every single day. I left that shift feeling sad and very discombobulated :(

Then the SM was running bar side in the most chaotic way imaginable. She’d start like 15 drinks at once, leave half of them unfinished, make drinks completely out of order, forget drinks existed, then randomly move to another station. Customers were waiting forever and even regulars were like “why is it such a mess in here??” Maybe this works elsewhere, I dunno, but my store was NOT compatible with whatever tomfoolery she had going on 😭

One lady literally came up to me disgusted asking why everything was dirty looking and girl- I DIDN’T KNOW WHAT TO SAY!! And then the SM took over the whole lobby saying she’ll flex the front, and I got told to do the trash run.

This is my first job so I don’t know if I’m understanding this all incorrectly, but every single week my hours are getting longer.
I’m a student taking a gap year so I have 100% open availability, but I made it clear I wanted to work part time. The schedule I signed off to was closing shifts 4 days a week (19 hrs total), but my store’s severely understaffed so a month later I caved and agreed to work 5 days (24.5 hrs).

So how in tarnation am I scheduled to work 36 hours next week??

At first my manager scheduled me correctly, she also pushed back when I asked for longer and more frequent shifts. But it feels like ever since I turned 18 my schedule no longer exists, and I just show up whenever. There’s no consistency! I’ve been letting it slide because I did want more hours, I genuinely enjoy working, and I was having fun but omggg. 6 days a week?? 8 hour shifts when I explicitly requested part time??

I thought managers were supposed to follow your set schedule, am I wrong? What was the paper I signed for then?

I don’t know if this is my fault, for quietly accepting the extra hours and letting my manager step over me, or am I just an idiot for not realizing that the schedule is more of a suggestion, and it’s normal for them to refuse to give you 6hr shifts when you ask for a 30, just to go behind your back and (sometimes) schedule it anyways.

My managers on LOA and there’s a temporary stand in filling her place. I don’t want to work 6 days a week but I also don’t want to use up my sick time to deal with this mess either. Is there something else I can do?
