All the buttons!

All the buttons!

I’ve had multiple cars over the years, but there has only been one time so far in where a car actually had all the functioning buttons. Sometimes you just get a placeholder piece of plastic for a feature the car doesn’t have.

It was satisfying for me to have had all the buttons functioning.

Perhaps somebody might enjoy that with me lol

Can I shorten or get out of my lease agreement?

Long story short: we migrated to the US (temporarily - ie 3-4 year stay).
When we arrived I didn’t have 70K in the bank, nor did I have a credit score.

So we ended up using Volkswagen’s “expat lease program”. Basically it just means they’ll provision a regular lease agreement without having credit score. I signed up for. 36 month lease deal for an Atlas Crosssport.

Now we’ve been in the US for about 15 months. I have a good credit score and my heart is longing for a more American car (Bronco, F150, Tundra, orso).

Is there a way I could get out of the lease contract, oe make a swap?
Thanks for any experience or insights!
This is in the Atlanta area btw

What does an MD do to earn the MD title?

Not really a rant question, or being smart, but mostly an honest exploration question.

I’ve moved to the US and here in corporate America the hierarchy is crazy… manager; general manager, director, managing director, VP…

I’m somewhere between IC and manager. I present stuff to directors and MDs.

It seems they are so high level involved in things and sit in a lot of meeting talking important stuff…

I just wonder what sort of skills or knowledge they have that makes them suited for that role. Partially the mockery (but true) answer isnaround they know how to chat well and sound smart etc. Then it’s about having been with the company long.

But there ought to be more to it?

Perhaps I’m at a point in life where I wonder: would I need to be MD in a couple of years? Do I want that? Do I have what it takes? But what does it take?

Potential winner in my "Evernote-Escape" search. Just validating

Hi there UpNote experts!

As many around me, I have a ticking time bomb which is the horrendous Evernote price increase. I need to find an alternative to my 2900 Notes that now live in Evernote within the next 15 days.

My current note organizing system came from a GTD setup.
I have 2 notesbooks (Inbox & Processed) and a pretty extensive tagging system, including subtages (ie: Projects --> Project 2025 --> Closed Projects).

Other then Note archiving, searching for a note, and taking notes, I dont use much else.
My notes contain text, images, pdfs, word docs, etc. So not just plain text.

One power move that Evernote has on me is the Scannable app. I scan documents and place them in Evernote easily. I dont think UpNote does that?

For the rest of my use-cases: Search through notes, create notes, tagging (incl sub-tags), it seems UpNote might be right for me.

Just wanted to validate that assumption, and ask if you have found an alternative way for scanning paperwork to digital storage.

Alternatives are Obsidian (but I dont like local storage), Joplin (but has some downsides to how its used), and Apple Notes (but that doesnt show tagging), so UpNote might be the best option...

Thanks in advance!

Looking for support from the experts - My note taking Use Case and tool suggestions

Hi all! I've got a similar question that so many others have as well, but I've found one use case in my workflow I didnt read about as much.

Last 10-13 years I've been in Evernote. I once built a whole full fledged GTD system based on 2 Notebooks (Inbox & Processed) and an elaborate tagging system with subtags.

That system has mostly turned in a large archive of around 2900 notes. Today, I don't use the GTD system in Evernote as heavily anymore, it's mainly used for three things:
- Archiving of older notes (and being able to search through them)
- Take a note on the spot. Quick capture of thoughts, or make notes during a pre-sales call etc.
- Scan an invoice/receipt and have it digital --> This is where Scannable and Evernote work very well

But, the new pricepoint and aggresive way they have been raising prices is not for me.

I've found Obsidian and Joplin being strong contenders, with Joplin most likely a good solution. However, it doesnt seem to offer the same scanning functionality.
Apple Notes doesnt seem to have a strong tagging solution so that might also not be it for me.

What are some recommendations you might have?

Thanks in advance!

Why do US bathroom stalls have huge gaps?

I moved to the US last year from the Netherlands. I have gotten used to most quirky American things, but one thing that still amazes me is the total lack of privacy of public and office bathrooms.
I’m a male, and all the public and office toilet rooms have these mega panel-based stalls with huge gaps. I can look under, over and through. Even in my workplace.

Why is that?! In the Netherlands, most public and all office based toilet areas have closes off “rooms”
For number 2 toilets. I can just “dump in peace”.
It makes it so uncomfortable for me to go to the toilet during work hours.
