HPF and low BP, how to combat this?
I love HPF and try to go at least 2x/week. I’ve been going to hot yoga class on and off for the past 20 years. It cathartic and it’s just my absolute favorite way to work out now that my joints can’t handle long runs anymore.
Unfortunately, I have orthostaic low blood pressure and it’s begun to interfere with my ability to do the class. Yesterday was the worst I’ve experienced. I felt faint, lost my vision momentarily and had to go into a restorative pose instead of flowing breath to movement and going through the warrior poses. I always keep a bend in my knees and take care when I rise from sitting but this happened anyway. I took my BP at night and it was 93/55 and that was well after i had gone about my day and had dinner, etc. I’m sure it was much lower in class.
Normally I go to a morning class and don’t eat before but since this started happening more I’ve made it a point to eat and hydrate before class. In general I drink a lot of water.
I did try those hydration sticks, several brands, but they are disgusting and I simply can’t choke them down. (I don’t like soda or flavored drinks in general)
Is there something else I can try to help this issue?
ETA:
My dr wasn’t concerned and just suggested I do unheated yoga. All blood work is normal. No vitamin deficiencies or anemia.
