Automatic License Plate Reader Cameras (ALPRs) News

Whenever this forum talks about the local flock situation, the good information seems to get buried under a lot of emotion and a lot of assumptions with very little current information from reputable sources.

Whether you're pro- or anti- or somewhere in the middle, this article is worth the read.

There is a short newsletter write-up from Wired that talks about this and provides other, current, links. I'm not sure if you need a sub to see the newsletter, but I'll provide the link: https://www.wired.com/story/security-roundup-apples-hide-my-email-service-fails-to-hide-your-email/

This is part of their "Security Roundup" - scroll to the bottom to see the blurb about the ALRPs.

Lee Cronin's The Mummy

Horror and sci-fi are my comfort genres. I have been genuinely frightened by only a handful of movies, and there's no pattern to which movies will do it. For reference, I was a forensicist for decades, so I've seen some things. :P

This movie... isn't frightening. I think it's a good movie, though, very generally speaking. All of that said, this movie has one scene that made my jaw drop and my soul attempt an emergency evacuation, taking my stomach with it.

That hasn't happened since I saw the original The Thing as a wee lass. I never really got over the dog scene - until I did.

I will give the movie this: there are a few novel ideas that make the movie worth watching if you're in a state of horror burnout.

Mailbox.org alternative that isn't Proton.

EDIT: I’d like to thank everyone for the help. I’ve found a couple of solid solutions, I think. We’ll see how it goes in a couple of months. Thanks, again :)

It has been a rough morning.

Anyway, I am knee-deep in de-googling, and was taking the big step of moving mail from gmail. I had talked it over, and decided that mailbox.org provided the least restrictive service.

I went to create the account, selected the Light tier so I could check it out for a couple of months, got all the way to accepting the ToS/ToC and clicked to create the account, and...

It sent me back to the "select a plan" page. I selected Light, again, and it opened a new tab asking me to select a plan, again.

That's when I found out, after doing more digging, that mailbox.org often has web interface issues, particularly with logging in. I require web access, and because of my work, I require uninterrupted web access. Gmail, for what it is, never once prevented me from accessing my mail.

Is there an alternative, now, to mailbox.org that:

  1. has web access to mail Will let me create an account smoothly
  2. Has web access
  3. Is privacy forward and secure
  4. Has a low "let me check this out before I commit to it" price tag
  5. Isn't tuta or proton.
  6. Can, when the "check this out" phase is over, support my custom domain.

I feel like I'm asking for a lot, but... I'm hoping one of you folks can help me along :)

Thank you in advance!

Ente iOS Mobile RK confirmation

Evenin'

I recently switched to Ente Photos, and so far so good.

On my iOS mobile app, Ente is asking me to "Confirm your recovery key" by typing it in. Is this normal?

I did a search on Ente Photos Help, and did a google search, and the help page doesn't mention needing to confirm it, and the google search says Ente Photos Mobile doesn't ask for any confirmation.

The only reason I'm not panicking is because if I tell it I don't know the recovery key, it tells me what it is.

It just feels odd that it would ask me to confirm the key. There is no way to dismiss the banner, either.

Also, I opened Ente other places, and there is no request for confirmation - it's only on the mobile app.

Thanks for any advice/help. :)

EDIT: Apparently I need to say this out loud: I am not asking for customer support. I'm asking if any other users are familiar with this confirmation badge on the iOS mobile app. Thank you :)

SW Spectrum Outages

Has anyone else been experiencing spectrum service outages in the Southwest part of town? It’s been daily, for hours, for three days now. Spectrum is saying “no outages” though.

Thanks!

Why must I logon to see outages?

I am not the account holder. The account holder works long, and odd hours. The last few days the internet has gone down. I have done all the technical things I can do without being the account holder.

Because the account holder works in emergency medicine, I can’t just bother him to ask him if it’s spectrum or us. I wouldn’t have to if I could check outages without logging on.

If it’s spectrum, I can send him a message with info he can act on, instead of asking him to take the time to investigate.

This lack of transparency only serves to protect Spectrum. It does not serve the consumer.

Does anyone have experience with Off The Charts in McFarland?

The way I used to get THC/CBD products is ending July 1st (California AB 8), so I need a local option near Bakersfield, and the closest licensed dispensary is Off The Charts in McFarland.

Has anyone used them? Do they deliver to Bakersfield? The website says "Cash Only" but they allow you to purchase through their website... Does that mean it's only cash at the brick-and-mortar, or does that mean I need cash at the delivery?

Any help/info would be appreciated. Thank you 😄

Rite Aid, Panama and Wible.

So, this Rite Aid went out of business like the rest, but the parking lot is bumping. It started out with a single road-side food vendor, and now it's a THING with multiple vendors? Or, one guy had a massive upgrade...

I have not been there, though I pass it all the time. Does anyone have any info on when and why it's so popular? Some days it looks like it gets no business, and other days the parking lot is full and lines are long.

Thanks! :)
