State declared disaster area-please help!

I am in northwest Indiana where the derecho hit on 8/11. A tree fell on my house causing a lot of damage. We have American Family Insurance.

We are currently in a hotel and the stay has been extended until next week. We have my three cats with us. HOWEVER, our two dogs are being boarded because the hotel cannot accommodate 5 pets.

I have been asking since we got displaced about long term temp housing. We do not have a lot of options in this area or the surrounding area for houses without them being extremely expensive. I have been concerned about getting my dogs out of boarding, us out of the hotel, and all of us together.

In my policy it mentions Additional living expenses. Per policy:

"Additional Living Expense.
This Coverage applies when a loss covered by
this policy makes that part of the residence
premises where you reside unfit to live in. We
then pay for the reasonable and necessary
increase in living expense you incur to
maintain the normal standard of living of the
household.
Payment will be for the shortest time required
to repair or replace the damaged property or, if
you permanently relocate, the shortest time
required for you to do so."

Our home is a 3 bed, 1 bath home with an attached garage, finished basement, and large fenced in yard. We don’t need all of that for us to be all together. We just need something in the area, that’s in a safe area, that has a fenced in yard and will accommodate 5 pets.

My case is being sent over to large loss so the claims rep is being changed. My previous rep told me that they have to have another company or maybe a different apartment? Figure out the fair rental value of our home. From that, she will send a check to us monthly and that’s what we use to pay for our long term temp housing. I asked if that’s an option or if it’s the only way they do it. She said if we rent something and it is above FRV, they will not reimburse.

We own our house. We do not rent. We do not rent our home to anyone. We have never done that. We do not have a farm or ranch. There is nothing in our policy about FRV. Just about ALE. I tried asking for where in our policy it states this and I’m kinda being given the run around.

ALL I WANT is to know where I’m going to be living. I’ve been displaced. I have pets in now separated from. I now have to wait even longer because it is getting transferred. Which I am glad they are recognizing the loss as large so we don’t get screwed but oh my god. I need to get into housing before it’s all taken😭

Can someone please tell me if FRV is not mentioned in the policy, should they even be looking at that at all?? I know our ALE policy has a limit of course. Which is also why I’m trying to get out of the hotel and my dogs out of boarding. It would be much more cost effective to get into long term housing.

TLDR; have been displaced, have 5 pets, being told FRV needs calculated when it’s not in my policy and I have nothing to do with renting

CX-30 or CX-5? Buying advice from a Subaru owner

I’m saving for a newer car and have narrowed it down to a CX-30 or CX-5, likely 2021–2025 and potentially a Turbo/high trim. I’d love to hear what made you choose the CX-30, especially if you also considered the CX-5.

For context, I’m coming from a 2011 Subaru Outback 3.6R. I’m 6’ tall, no kids (and likely staying that way), married with 2 dogs. My husband will probably take over the Outback once it’s repaired, so we’ll still have a larger vehicle for hauling dogs/stuff.

My biggest hesitation with the CX-30 is size. I haven’t been able to sit in either yet, but I’m curious how other taller drivers find the front-seat space and visibility. How bad are the blind spots? I had a CX-50 rental and really liked it, but the A-pillar created a surprisingly large blind spot for me.

I’m also leaning toward the Turbo because I love the power of my 3.6R Outback. Is the Turbo worth it, and have you noticed any meaningful difference in reliability/maintenance versus the NA engine? I’m very diligent about maintenance and plan to keep my next car for a long time.

A few other things I’m curious about:
Snow/AWD: I’m in Northwest Indiana’s lake-effect snow belt. How does the CX-30 handle deeper snow and winter highway driving?
Highway range: I WFH, but regularly make 100–140 mile round trips on weekends. Does the smaller tank/range get annoying?
Interior: I LOVE the white interior, but how does it actually hold up long-term? Will ceramic coating help?
Reliability: What mileage are you at, and what repairs have you needed beyond normal maintenance?
Used/CPO: How important would a complete maintenance history be, particularly on a Turbo? I’m leaning CPO because so many used Carfax reports I’ve found show little or no maintenance history. And What’s a good range of miles I should be aiming for in the used market? Any difference in what to look for shopping used for turbo vs NA?

What draws me to Mazda is getting a nicer interior/driving experience without going crazy on price, while still prioritizing safety and reliability. I also REALLY want physical controls and a traditional automatic — no giant touchscreen and no CVT.
For anyone who considered both, what ultimately made you choose the CX-30 over the CX-5, or vice versa? And if you went from Subaru to Mazda, I’d especially love to hear how the switch has been.

TL;DR: 6’ tall Subaru Outback owner considering a used CX-30 vs CX-5, possibly Turbo. Most interested in size/visibility, snow performance, reliability, Turbo vs NA, highway range, and what made you pick one over the other.

ForeverForLove, do I send my ring back?

Hi all,

I got my engagement ring back in December 2020 from Amy at ForeverForLove. At that time she came highly recommended. I will say, I definitely thought some things were weird.

Her communication was pretty bad. Would take several days for a response. The first stone she sent me to ask my opinion was HORRIBLE. I asked for several videos of it both inside and outside and it took forever for her to produce, with one being very pixelated. She ended up getting my center stone and it was stunning.

I was supposed to have my ring engraved and she said the shop where they would engrave was closed bc of Covid (it WAS 2020) and it I waited I likely wouldn’t get it in time so I passed on it as I wanted my ring.

Fast forward 5.5 years later and one of my stones has fallen out. I can see her reviews have tanked on here and I reached out to her about the stone falling out. She told me to contact the sales team on WhatsApp so I have. I’m just nervous to send my ring back. I do adore it and want it fixed but I’m scared it’s gonna be gone for 8 months😭

Years to avoid?

Hi all,

I am going to be in the market for a used vehicle and I am looking at Mazda. I’m coming from a 2011 Subaru Outback 3.6r model. I’m not super into cars or anything, just want something super safe and reliable and where maintenance doesn’t cost tons.

I am looking at a cx-5. I was thinking 2021 though I know they had the valve stem issues. Was this fixed in the 2022 model? I know with Subarus there are definitely years you want to avoid so I was curious if there are any to full blown avoid with Mazda and ones that are the best?

I don’t really want to go much older bc the tech then becomes super outdated. I’m not used to anything but a tiny backup camera in my outback, but I want to sell her and upgrade to something a bit nicer with a bit more tech and safety features without being full blown screens and digital everything.

I’m also leaning more towards turbo than not just because I am coming from the 6 cylinder outback and I really like how quickly she gets up to speed. I certainly don’t drive around pedal to the ground at all so idk if the turbo reliability is worth it? Or is the issue with turbos moreso bc those who get them tend to be rougher on those engines? Again, coming from Subaru where labor costs way more than parts and maintenance is necessary so I’m used to a more high maintenance vehicle. And am way more willing to put money into one that will last me miles and miles.

Thanks!!

Best generic? DESPERATE

Hi all,

I recently started taking ADHD medication (30F, 10mg IR 2x daily) after being diagnosed. I started on mallinkrodt and then the second month I got Sandoz due to my CVS constantly changing manufactures. I HATED Sandoz. It made me physically more engaging but did absolutely nothing for my executive function. It didn’t help with my urgency and didn’t regulate my moods at all. It was horrible. It also kept me up until 3am. Even when I decided to just take one 10mg instead of my two.

The mallinkrodt helped me tremendously. I know it’s all different by person, but I’m looking for people who specifically do well with the mallinkrodt. OR people who take Sandoz and report the same effects I did. What other generics have you tolerated? I struggle most with executive function, mood regulation, and being able to organize and prioritize my thoughts. It’s not as much a physical limitation as it is mental for me.

I’m worried about getting it filled and having another dud of a month. Looking for any advice please! My provider already puts in my file which I prefer but my area doesn’t have it. I asked cvs to check anywhere nearby that has mallinkrodt and nobody does. I’ve called other places that are in my network and nothing. I’ve gotten teva (out of pocket $100), Lanette, epic, and elite as options nearby.

Please help!! Thank you!!
