Isle of Skye Elopement

My fiance and I are eloping next May (2027) in Isle of Skye. We have most of our vendors booked, however, I am having trouble finding a makeup artist. Does anyone have recommendations?

No urination days after TPLO?

My 12.5 year old shar pei (55lb) had TPLO surgery + the surgeon fixed his luxating patella in the same operation (Tuesday morning). He did not urinate before leaving the vet that evening. He hasn’t urinated or had a bowel movement since (it is now Thursday afternoon). The last two days, he’s been incredibly sedated- due to meds, etc. He’s on rimadyl, trazodone, gabapentin, and antibiotics every 12 hours. He’s hasn’t walked at all. The day of surgery and the following day, he would have completely collapsed if I didn’t support him. He couldn’t stand on his own from a lying position at all. Today, he can stand a bit (with support of back legs which feels like the norm) but cannot stand up from lying down on his own at all and won’t try to. He still can’t or won’t walk. He is eating and drinking but I have to hand feed food and hold the water dish for him to drink while lying down.

I called the vet yesterday at 7am to ask about the lack of urination. I’m not as concerned about bowel movements as that’s expected. He’s never had trouble urinating after surgery though. I said he seems really disoriented from the medicine as well. The nurse said to continue with all meds and this happens sometimes. She also said the surgeon gave him a strong nerve blocker in his leg and that’s why he’s having trouble standing/knuckling. I should call back tomorrow if he still hasn’t urinated. I called back at 7am this morning because he hasn’t urinated and has been so heavily sedated. Still knuckling on bad leg. I was told to hold off on the trazodone and call back at 3:30pm if he hasn’t urinated.

I’ve taken him out three times today. Nothing. He can’t/ won’t walk at all on his own, even with support. i have a sling but have been using a full body harness at this point. I carry him to the yard and back and support while I’m out there. He cannot stand alone. He cannot walk. Otherwise, he doesn’t act like he’s in pain, although obviously I know he is. He has an appetite and is drinking water. He has been awake more this afternoon post trazodone but lays on his bed and doesn’t move. I don’t want to take him out too often and risk injuring him. He doesn’t move when we’re out there, only stands and waits. I do try to carry him to different spots but still nothing. He also has seen our other dog urinate.

Is this normal? Not just the lack of urination, but the lethargy? I really love my veterinary practice but I’m also concerned because he’s a senior dog and I don’t know what is normal for this kind of surgery, his age, etc. I heavily researched the surgery prior to this and I never saw these issues or even dogs who couldn’t walk at all.

I do plan to call the vet back today, but wanted to see if anyone else had information that could be helpful here. Thank you in advance for your help. I’m grateful for any information.
