I’m 23, recently graduated with a B.E./B.Tech in Instrumentation & Control Engineering (CGPA 7.93).

I’ve completed around 1 year as a Sales Intern at Emerson in Measurement Solutions. My work involved technical sales, customer requirements, proposals, commercial negotiations, CRM, account development, and I’ve worked on sales worth ₹3+ crore.

I'm more interested in business, sales, product and management than core instrumentation. Long term, I want a high-paying career, leadership opportunities, international work experience, and potentially an MBA from a top foreign business school.

I’m currently considering three directions:

1. CAT → IIM/top Indian MBA

2. Work for 2–4 years → GMAT → top foreign MBA

3. M.Des, particularly Interaction/Product/Communication Design at a top institute such as IIT Bombay IDC

I’m also considering continuing in technical sales for a few years, but I’m worried that staying in instrumentation-related sales could eventually pigeonhole me into the industry.

Financially, I can’t casually spend huge amounts on an overseas degree, so ROI and career outcomes matter a lot.

My main questions:

- Is an MBA the better route for my goals?

- Does continuing in technical sales make it difficult to move into general B2B sales, marketing, product or business roles later?

- Is M.Des actually a strong career option for high-paying product/UX/design roles, or is the job market too limited?

- Should I take CAT seriously now, or focus on working and eventually targeting a foreign MBA?

- Would you recommend leaving the job to prepare for CAT, or working while preparing?

Looking for honest advice from people who have actually gone through these paths, especially regarding long-term career growth rather than just starting salaries.
