What classes should I take during shadow grading? (‘30)

Since those grades don’t appear on my transcript, i’m wanting to get some of the harder requirements out of the way.

for context, i’m not great at math and science stuff so i was thinking of taking calc and a lab. any lab recs?? any other classes i should probs get out of the way before the grades go on my transcript?

i’m a low income student in the class of 2030, and i kinda need a new laptop. i have a hand-me-down 2018 macbook, and, in all honesty, it’s not doing too hot :(

i know some schools help give grants to low income students to get new laptops, is wellesley one of them? either way, is there anyone i could reach out to at wellesley to possibly get some info on this?

hi! i got into both wellesley college and cornell university to study political science (wells)/public policy (cornell brooks) and i need help deciding.

in my college experience, i value: strong campus culture, things to do around the area, strong alumni network, happy students, opportunities for internships. no offense, i like wellesley a lot more, but idk if it’d be a mistake to turn down an ivy like cornell :(

Wellesley

Pros:

-I LOVE the campus culture so much

-i love the all-women environment (i went to all girls high school)

-the civic engagement and political science progs are VERY STRONG (more so than most LACs) bc we’ve had SO MANY famous alum in politics who gave/still give back

-hillary rodham clinton center for civic engagement has INSANE opportunities + networking

-known for producing women who are “change makers” (call it wtv u want but its true to an extent) and i LOVE that

-i love the campus and the area MUCH more than cornell (it’s only 45 mins away from boston which makes me very happy)

-full ride

-close-ish to boston which has TONS of stuff to do!!

-close-knit relationships w profs which means good research opportunities

-3 big conferences r hosted here yearly that id LOVE to be a part of

-can cross register w/ MIT, olin, babson, harvard (?)

-student body is in general very friendly and welcoming

-No greek life, close-knit student body with many deep traditions

-i’m not a big party person but if i do want parties/to go out i can do so fairly easily at mit/harvard/boston

-at least 2 internships required to graduate from my prog with absolutely INSANE alumni network

Cons:

-doesn’t have the “ivy status”

-really hard academics + grade deflation

-echo chamber for liberal views (this is also a pro in that i’ve been in 100% conservative environments my whole life so i really want a change)

Cornell:

Pros:

-Ivy status

-in general, more resources available (but maybe not as accessible ??) than wellesley bc of how big the school is

-full ride

-more diverse thought

-niche inequality studies minor

Cons:

-even tho it’s an ivy its public policy program is SO NEW (4-5 yrs old) and my program specifically doesn’t have a built in alumni network quite yet

-my specific specific prog (dc start) is only 3 yrs old and i sincerely wish it were more developed

-i’ve never visited and can’t visit till july

-from what i’ve seen and heard, i’d HATE the campus. i don’t like how it’s so far from major cities. i wish it were closer to NYC

-many ppl say they’re mega depressed all the time

-seasonal depression is common from what i’ve heard, and that impacts me a solid amount if i don’t have good social support

-i don’t like how prevalent greek life is on campus

-harder to get close with the profs

-probably academically difficult

-not much to do in ithaca

-i looked at the ppl on the cornell2030 page and they’re much less my “vibe”

-i feel like the only fun thing to do is drink

Obv there's the numerical difference in that there are 8 ivies and 7 sister colleges, but which pair up in terms of their culture/vibes/location?

There are some that are obvious like Barnard/Columbia but what are the others?

My thoughts:

Radcliffe - Harvard

Wellesley - Princeton

Smith - Brown

Vassar - Cornell

Bryn Mawr - Penn

Mt. Holyoke - Dartmouth

Barnard - Columbia
