Why would someone never work home jobs?

Just overheard a JW from out of state say that he never works jobs at his home local. He mentioned something about letting new guys have a spot but I didn't catch the rest of his explanation. Are there other reasons someone might choose never to work jobs from their home local? Aside from there not being jobs available?

[USA] Returned to school, then quit, and now I miss it so much I cried

Last year I returned to college after a nearly decade long hiatus. I attended for a semester and loved it, but without a solid career path and no real plans for a Master's or beyond, I decided it was a waste of time and money and didn't re-enroll. I've been interested in trade school for a while so I decided an apprenticeship at a local union would be a better choice, and I figured I could stay at my current job till the union called.

And now like 8 months later I'm still waiting on a call and I hate my job so much it's affecting my quality of life (I am job hunting but, well, we all know how that is right now).

Anyway, I had a bit of a mental breakdown recently and started crying about how I wish I'd never quit school and how much I miss it. And I can't help but think I'd be a much more desirable candidate for some of the positions I'm applying for if I had a Bachelor's in psych, possibly with a business minor.

I know the union will call eventually and I am still excited for that, but psych is really where my heart is, and I don't think it could hurt to have a degree as a backup. Plus dual classing in trade work and psychology feels very on brand for me lol. So I think I'm going to re-enroll, if nothing else because I *really* want to and I would hate to deprive myself of the experience and look back with regret. Plus I was good at my classes. Stats was a breeze for me and my admissions counselor said most people fail that class at least once.

I know the opinions on stopping at a bachelor's degree in this field are pretty starkly divided. It seems like half of this sub thinks it's absolutely useless since it's not specialized, and the other half seems to think that the lack of specialization can be useful to get your foot in the door in a variety of industries. I've gone back and forth between the two but at this point I'm just kind of like fuck it, I'm miserable where I am now, I don't know what the future holds, and I *really fucking want this*. Worst case scenario, I come out the other side in more debt but having learned more about myself and a field I love.

Update: told my therapist

Title. It went well I guess. I usually see her every 2 weeks and she wanted me to come in again the next week because she didn't feel comfortable waiting that long. I also told my partner. Who I didn't originally intend to tell. They were supportive. I had them get rid of what I was using. And then last night I had a total breakdown and told them so much that I had been keeping inside. I didn't mean to, it just all spilled out.

Idk if I need a psych appt or to go inpatient or what. I check pretty much all the boxes for high risk of sui. I want to take a leave from work but I don't know if being home alone for that long will be safe for me. I'm like... I *probably* won't do anything... but I can't say for certain I won't. If I had my stuff readily available I'd have cut yesterday for sure. I almost had a mental breakdown at work yesterday. Today is better I think? Idk, it's hard to tell how I'm feeling lately.

Is ForeverZone on Instagram AI?

Their videos seem uncanny, but in an AI way, not in a human way. My spouse insists it's real, I don't think it is. Some of the physics and lighting seem really weird and off. They're a relatively new account (December 2025) as well. At the very least it feels like an AI filter over a real person (the old guy in particular).

What do y'all think?
