MikroTik CHR vs accel-ppp for a GPON L2TP LNS

Yes, I know Cisco or Juniper are better suited for a scenario like in the title. And I actually don't run an ISP at the moment (only a VPS/VPN host).

But if I did, for a small ISP (like 2000-10000 subscribers) running high-end x86 servers for a L2TP LNS, would MikroTik CHR (with all cores/threads allocated to CHR) or accel-ppp be more performant?

This is for 300 Mbps-2 Gbps end user plans, terminated on wholesale GPON/XGS-PON on a cluster of 4-5 LNSes. Each LNS runs 16-core AMD 9950X with 64GB RAM and 4x25GbE (two upstream & two wholesale ports).

Optimum gave my dad IPv6, and then broke it

I have a MikroTik hEX at my dad's place. He uses Optimum with a Hitron CODA modem (he refuses to switch to Verizon FiOS).

For a short while, my hEX had a DHCPv6-PD prefix from Optimum after they started rolling out IPv6 on DOCSIS. Now, the prefix is GONE.

It could be a MikroTik or Hitron issue. I haven't really debugged it since my dad isn't tech savvy enough: he plugs in his Orbi to my hEX and does double NAT without realizing it.

In the meanwhile, I technically use a L2TP "tunnel" (I know Wireguard is "better" but T-Mobile plays better with non-IPsec L2TP) and it gives me a static IPv6 prefix and IPv4. I use a BGP VPS and ARIN fees are cheaper than business broadband.

Greg Abbott comes out as a transgender man, admits he had an abortion

Unknown to the whole world until now, Greg Abbott has come out as a transgender man.

He says he's been on testosterone since 1978 and had a double mastectomy in 1979, but hid his transgender status for nearly half a century for "safety."

He deeply "regrets" passing anti-transgender laws. He admits he got a fake passport from the dark web to not have a F gender marker on his passport.

He also admitted he got an abortion when visiting New York City. He only passed anti-abortion laws because it was the "conservative" thing to do.

Abbott has since changed his party affiliation to Democratic and is now praising AOC, Gavin Newsom and Zohran Mamdani. He also plans to resign and leave Texas for California

Jensen Huang says Nvidia will shut down on July 1, 2026, tells people to avoid AI

After becoming the world's most valuable company, Jensen Huang says Nvidia will shut down on July 1, 2026.

The reason for this is because Huang believes Nvidia is destroying the environment and economy because of the AI boom. He experiences "guilt" for the damage AI has done.

All employees have been laid off immediately without severance or healthcare. Nvidia's Santa Clara headquarters have been sold to Lennar for demolition and the construction of a townhouse complex.

Huang says he "deeply regrets" founding Nvidia and encourages recycling all Nvidia products for the raw materials. He said gamers can use AMD Radeon GPUs, which are expected to become a monopoly.

The NASDAQ 100 dropped by 98% as a result. NVDA stock crashed from $192.53 to $0.0000647.

Huang also says he plans to move to Bhutan and become a Buddhist monk. He is "proud to be poor."

Sam Altman admits AI is a scam, plans to resign and start an anti-AI PAC

In news that should surprise no one, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI admitted AI is a scam.

He admitted the only thing AI is capable of doing is destroying the economy and environment.

He praised Zohran Mamdani and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez over their views of the economy and AI regulation, and fiercely criticized Elon Musk and Donald Trump over the AI frenzy.

Altman says he "deeply regrets" creating ChatGPT and wishes he could shut down OpenAI. However, his attempts to do so have been rejected by OpenAI's board.

Altman plans to resign from OpenAI and to start a left-wing anti-AI PAC.

Elon Musk comes out as nonbinary and Progressive, uses they/them pronouns

After years of being an open transphobe, even buying Twitter to spread right-wing propaganda, Elon Musk has come out as nonbinary and is now using they/them pronouns in a video posted to X. Musk was wearing a mesh crop top and low-waisted cargo pants in the video.

Elon Musk has praised their trans daughter Vivian Jenna Wilson for living her authentic self, and apologized for years of transphobia.

This is surprising since they helped Donald Trump win in 2024 using X to spread right-wing propaganda.

Musk plans to participate in queer events, but many LGBTQ+ community members are skeptical. Emily Smith, an autistic transgender lesbian says "Elon Musk is coming out as 'nonbinary' to get street cred after the GOP is losing everything. He's a straight man who has done enough damage to the LGBTQ+ community."

Musk endorsed Progressive Democrats for 2026, praising Mamdani and his endorsements, and is planning to move from Austin to NYC. They want "AOC to run for president in 2028" and donated 99% of their net worth to progressive and LGBTQ+ causes. They are also lobbying for increased taxes on the wealthy.

Tesla and SpaceX stock crashed after Musk sold their stock.

Musk plans to shut down X and encourages users to switch to Bluesky.

Musk did say "I may not be able to use public restrooms, but otherwise I'm free."

Donald Trump comes out as Transgender, is now Donna Trump

After years of struggling with depression, narcissism, mental instability and weight gain, Donna Trump (formerly Donald Trump) has come out as a transgender woman on June 24, 2026. She has been on hormones for over a month.

Donna is encouraging her Republican peers in congress to partner up with Democrats and instate LGBTQ+ rights into law.

Donna says she plans to get electrolysis and gender confirmation surgery.

She has also praised Vivian Jenna Wilson and criticized Elon Musk for not affirming his daughter.

Firefox isn't "dying." Firefox users use ad blockers more than Chrome users

Online, I've heard all over that "Firefox is dying." This is false, and here's why.

Firefox users are more likely to block ads than Chrome users. There's a reason why there is a switch to Firefox movement on Reddit: because Firefox didn't kill ad blockers and if you want ad blocking, you switch to Firefox.

These Firefox users don't get counted. A "data driven" approach shows "Firefox is dying." It's possible Firefox is gaining users who block ads and losing users who don't. And the gains aren't counted, since the trackers are blocked.

This is in stark contrast with 2008-2020 when Firefox users were overwhelmingly switching to Chrome.

So when you hear "Firefox is dying," remember that it isn't: ad blockers make Firefox seem smaller than it is.

UniFi U7 Pro Outdoor has intermittent disconnects on Linux/Intel but not macOS/M5

I have a M5 Pro MacBook Pro (macOS 26.5, no Asahi) and a HP EliteBook X G1i running Fedora 44. I have a backyard in my townhouse and it has a U7 Pro Outdoor.

The question is, why does Linux on Intel Wi-Fi 7 BE200 sometimes disconnect on a UniFi setup while my Mac doesn't.

I remember it also happened on a U6 Mesh, that using other HP and Lenovo ThinkPad models running Fedora. An older M3 Pro MacBook Pro and my brother's ThinkPad (running Windows) works fine. Indoor U7 Pros have no problems.

I am using a MikroTik core router and switch, and UniFi PoE switches (dual Flex 2.5G PoE) and APs. My controller is UniFi OS on Rocky Linux.

Why do you use pfSense/OPNsense boxes or MikroTik/UniFi appliances and why?

I'm curious about you all homelabbers. Tons of homelabbers love UniFi gear, others use OPNsense and some use MikroTik.

For my homelab, I use MikroTIk for core routing, switching and my 5G modem, and UniFi for PoE switches and APs.

The reason is because I do complex routing rules (certain source IPs use Spectrum, others use 5G) which can't be replicated as easily in UniFi afaict, and because OPNsense boxes (at least in 2024) were more power hungry than a CCR2004. I'd much rather run all-MikroTik but UniFi has 2.5G PoE and better Wi-Fi radios than MT.

What networking setup do you prefer, MikroTik, UniFi, OPNsense, Omada, Alta Labs or anything else and why?

High Split in New York, NY 10031

I have Gigabit Internet using a Spectrum modem and my own MikroTik router. I live in a townhouse/brownstone in New York, NY (10031/Hamilton Heights) and we colocate a Spectrum amp.

About two months ago, Spectrum added a high-split node on our block. May I please know the status of the high-split upgrade, on whether it's ready to be turned on or if other work needs to be completed?
