Update: Loquita vs Arnoldi’s

Thank you to everyone who responded to my previous post asking which restaurant was better for us on our trip. It was very helpful, we listened, and we had a wonderful time out.

I thought it could be helpful to discuss the expectations vs experience we had, and I want to start off by saying Loquita was absolutely the right choice, we’re very glad we went.

The food was ok. Before leaving we were concerned with the quality of the food, which was partially valid. Nothing was so bad it was inedible, but it wasn’t great and in ways that were surprising.

The chicken and chorizo paella was ridiculously over seasoned by smoked paprika. I would expect saffron to be the dominant flavor, but it was almost non existent. The quality of the chorizo saved the dish.

The chicken was badly overcooked and dry. It felt like it was made by someone who’s paranoid about cooking chicken. The lamb chops were also overcooked. I don’t understand how such a quality restaurant could make those kinds of mistakes.

My partner loved the croquettes and we had a second round, but these are really hard to mess up so I’m not surprised.

The ambience was amazing, better than we could have imagined. Dining on the patio alone is worth coming for and made the night special. Well beyond expectations.

The staff… the supporting staff were incredible and lifted the dining experience. But our actual server was horrible. Possibly the rudest/most ignorant server I’ve had. I’m not sure why a restaurant trying to offer fine dining seems to prefer hiring school aged women over actual trained professionals, but whatever.

TLDR: The food at loquita could be so much better with a little more effort, as could the dining experience. We’re glad we went but disappointed with what could have been.

Arnoldi’s vs Loquito

Heya,

So we’re visiting Santa Barbara and are struggling to choose between these two restaurants. Arnoldi’s looks fantastic but we do have Italian often.

Loquito has variety but looking at the dishes it doesn’t look as appetizing as most Spanish food we’ve had. Like we’ve heard so many good things about this place but I’m really doubtful.

Any thoughts?

Stroganoff with both steak and mince?

I want to make stroganoff and have made it with both ground beef and steak, but not combined. If I’m using a leaner cut for the beef, I thought adding some fatty minced beef would give it some flavor and texture to the sauce? Anyone tried this?

Gained 4lbs of muscle, lost 6lbs of fat, in three months from surprise recomp

I didn’t know much about LG but wanted to share my progress and see how it relates to the strategy and principles here. I think dropping from 19.3% bf to 15.9 for a female is pretty cool.

First off, 32F, 5’10, and I went from 164 to 162 between dexa scans. I wanted to drop muscle and fat, and was very surprised to see how much muscle I built. While dexa has some inaccuracies, I do take them fasted right in the morning and normalize for fluid fluctuations.

I saw muscle mass increases across my whole body, with most gains in my trunk/glutes and slightly more in my legs. Fat loss was 12-13% in most areas, but I was shocked to see abdominal fat drop by 33%. I’ve never seen that much of a focus in all my scans.

For workouts I have one super heavy leg day a week. This is like 24 sets of 8 different exercises, but the core of it is about 12 sets of heavy compound lifts to failure, the rest are for small muscles.

I also do hill sprints 2-3x a week, and get 15k steps in daily.

For my diet, 24 hours post leg day I eat almost anything I want, and a lot. I do pay close attention to mps timing, I avoid sugar, but everything else is fair game.

6 days a week I eat 1400 calories with less than 20g of protein and less than 20g net carbs. So loads of veggies and oils/dressing. 1-2 avocados daily. However immediately after a sprint session I have 75g of plain carbs.

The goal was to lose some upper body muscle that won’t go away, while just maintaining my lower body. I didn’t want to lose fat, I didn’t want to gain so much muscle. But I thought this was all fairly interesting and curious how it overlaps with or contradicts LG.

Burger or poke taco from Gott’s?

Gott’s was chosen as the Father’s Day destination and from photos I wasn’t impressed with their burgers. I do like poke tacos in general, not sure if they’re in a tortilla shell or different kind.

Would love any feedback on either or both items so I don’t throw away a meal on a diet, ty!
