Feels like utility code naturally drifts apart over time no matter how organized you try to be.

You start with one clean helper function.

Then:

• one project modifies it slightly

• another copies an older version

• eventually there are 5 similar variations everywhere

At some point maintaining consistency almost feels harder than rewriting things entirely.

I’m honestly starting to think duplication is more of a “managed risk” than something you fully eliminate.

Sisterhood will always be dramatic

When I first moved into my place, I told myself it was “just for now.” So I treated it that way. Random sheets, one pillow. No real effort. It felt more like a crash pad than somewhere I actually lived. A few weeks ago, my sister told me she was coming to my city and being the people pleaser that I am, I offered to let her stay at my place. The thing is, my sister is kind of a snob so I know for sure that if she sees my house in the state that it’s currently in, she would definitely not have nice things to say. For this reason, I decided to give my place a mini makeover

I went on Alibaba and ordered a bunch of home decor stuff. I arranged them neatly around the house in a bid to make it more aesthetically pleasing. She came on a Tuesday and stayed till Saturday. All in all it was a really fun week. I actually forgot how much fun we used to have when we were together because it’s actually been so long since we were in the same vicinity at the same time. It’s mostly my fault though because I’m always moving. I really don’t like to be in one place for too long.

Anyway, last week I was expecting company so I decided to bring out the bedding set I ordered while I was ordering the home decor stuff and I realized it wasn’t in the box where I had kept it. I practically tore my house apart looking for the set and I couldn’t find it anywhere so I just told myself I’d probably kept it somewhere and forgot and I’d find it eventually. I ended up using my basic old bedsheets.

Tell me why I’m face timing my sister last night and while on the call I notice a very familiar bedding set on her bed. Obviously I point it out to her and she tells me she took it because she needed something to remember me by. Sisterhood will always be dramatic. I love my sister to death but at that moment I wished I could reach into the screen and just pull her ears for making me stress out.

i probably did the most for our anniversary.... right?

I knew I wanted to do something really special for my wife for our anniversary. I'm talking gifts and flowers, candy and cute trinkets to set out for her, a lot of little things I could pick up here and there. And the bedroom I wanted that to feel special. Like a moment that you look back at for a long, long time, you know?

I figured the most central place for that kind of attention to be would obviously have to be the bed. So, naturally, I decided I needed some fancy bedding sets. I had seen a set on Alibaba that I considered, and honestly, I was kinda scared. Buying that sort of thing online just felt like too big a risk what if it was junky or didn’t fit? Instead, I found some at the home goods store.

When it actually showed up, they were just…perfect. Really soft and smooth, and the color matched the bouquets and little candles I’d arranged all around. I must have spent a whole afternoon making the bed over and over, smoothing down sheets, bunching up pillowcases. Arranging every… last… bit…

When she walked in the house after her day at work, her eyes got really wide and her whole face lit up. She barely noticed the gifts lying out initially; she literally sat on the bed, traced her fingers over the fabric, smiled and whispered, "Wow…"

It was worth every single minute! That bed made a huge impression; it entirely set the mood.

It completely changed the appearance of the bedroom!

You know sometimes the small stuff is all you need. And yes, I'm pretty sure I found a new method of acquiring bonus points in my marriage.
