how to ramp CFL number (for a coupled CHT solver)

So this should be an easy question, right? Start low, then ramp high. Even Star-CCM+ has a built-in ramp function for CFL.

Then, when I see the residuals, using a higher CFL number will increase the residuals, which is understandable. Lower diagonal dominant -> harder to solver -> higher residuals.

Then I am testing something now. I am reducing the CFL number after the solution converged with the higher CFL number. And I see that the residuals are going down (so far so good), but the temperature field also changes.

So should we also run another few iterations with lower CFL number at the end, just for the solution to converge "better"?

Clarification:

this is a turbine blade cooling simulation. High CFL means 1000, and low means 100. Maybe I will try using a lower one just to see if the field is changing again.

Wie kann es sein, dass Burger in NL biliger ist als in DE?

NL: 1 Euro bei BK und 1.5 bei McD

DE: 2 Euro

Mindestlohn in NL is deutlich teurer und MwST ist 1% höher

Hi my main CFD solver is starccm+ and I am mainly doing turbine rotor/stator cooling design.

In my office, we have 2 HPC "servers" both with AMD EPYC (2x7663+2x7543) each with 1TB DDR4 RAM. So 4 million cells takes 10s per iteration using 32 cores (1 physical CPU socket) .

Since my next/future projects will involve models with larger cell counts, I want to convince my boss to maybe buy a GPU.

Can someone who used or is using GPU with starccm tell my your experience?

How much improvement I can expect?

What kind of GPU do I need? Server GPU from 1027 (Tesla I believe) with 96GM VRAM cost about 200/300 Euros now, is this a good choice?

What spec should I look for? If my simulation is running with 300 GB RAM, should I also buy several GPU? What kind of "penalty" will occur if I am using several GPU with smaller VRAM instead of 1 GPU with giant VRAM?

Sorry for asking a lot of question. I have a background in aerospace and CFD but not so much in hardware.

Hello guys, I live direct near the border (Aachen) and me+my GF want to visit keukenhof this saturday.

So according to keukenhof.nl a ticket+round trip bus cost 33.5 per adult (from Leiden), and only ticket costs 21 per adult.

So my question is, is it cheaper to buy ticket only and use your credit card to take the bus from Leiden Centraal? or they cost the same at the end?

or maybe the bus is owned bu Keukenhof so I need to pay 33.5 anyway?

Thank you
