Compilation of interesting behavior of Little Scout with [SPOILER]

The Little Scout behaves, I would argue, somewhat counterintuitively on the Quantum Moon and I’m curious to hear everyone’s thoughts. Here is everything I observed, which I encourage you to reproduce yourself!

Landing cam image look-away

In case you didn’t know, you can take a picture of the surface of the Quantum Moon with your Little Scout. This counts as a picture of the Quantum Moon, so the moon won’t move as long as you’re looking at this picture.

Make sure the picture is visible on your ship’s scout monitor and fly up out of the atmosphere. The Quantum Moon should still be there, and you’ll still have your picture.

Then, click in and out of Landing Mode. You should still have your picture, but the Quantum Moon is gone because you stopped observing the picture for a moment when you looked into your landing cam.

Wherever the Quantum Moon is now, it will stay there, even if it’s at a different location. The picture of the Quantum Moon’s surface, no matter the location, keeps the Quantum Moon wherever it may be after you’ve moved it by checking your landing cam. You can use a picture of the Giant’s Deep QM’s surface to land on the Timber Hearth QM! That barely makes sense to me.

You can use this to get the QM stuck at the sixth location. But you can click in and out of Landing Mode to move the moon again.

Scout re-entry

You can use a scout’s image of the Quantum Moon’s surface to keep it in place, same as above. But whenever you re-enter the Quantum Moon, the Scout always reappears in descent on the south pole. This feels like a glitch to me, as if I shot my scout while on the north pole of the Quantum Moon onto the surface of the north pole (from inside the atmosphere, that’s important), it shouldn’t have moved when I exit and re-enter the moon.

My guess is that the game has a Boolean toggle for “is scout on Quantum Moon”. If the answer is true, it summons the scout in descent on the south pole because it makes the incorrect assumption that the scout was shot into the moon from outside, even though you can shoot the scout onto the moon while on the moon, exit, and come back. I’ve even seen friends use this as a safety in their playthroughs.

By the way, combined with the previous trick I described, the scout will actually appear at the new Quantum Moon location despite leaving it at the previous one! Further evidence for the Boolean flag hypothesis.

Shrine entanglement

You can attach your scout to the outside of the shrine on the Quantum Moon. You can use the scout to take pictures of the outside of the location you’re at as you go from location to location using the rule of quantum entanglement.

You can even take pictures of the sixth location from your scout when a rock is blocking your exit. This is the final piece of evidence that contradicts my earlier assumption that a scout’s picture of a certain moon surface keeps the moon at that location. You can be looking right at a picture of the Timber Heart Quantum Moon, and if it’s attached to the shrine it will happily come with you to another location, and you can take a picture of that location without stepping foot out of the shrine or turning the lights on.

What do you think of these discoveries?

Controller support for TGG Dominion?

I love to play Dominion on my TV using a gyro controller for mouse control because it’s nice to play on such a large display. I realize I could use mouse on the TV just fine, but I have some macros I like to use as shortcuts to, e.g. click Play Treasures. But does anyone know if TGG Dominion is ever getting official controller support through a console release or otherwise? I know I would also love to be able to play Dominion on Switch.

How do you tend to use Zonai device caches in the Depths?

I’m on my second playthrough of TotK, and I want to 100% it with an emphasis on creative puzzle-solving, combat, and traversal, at least relative to my very vanilla first playthrough. It’s helped me enjoy it a lot more than I did the first time, but one area where I feel like I’m falling short is with the Zonai device depots found all over the Depths.

Oftentimes I forgo them just to walk, or at the very most just build a fanplane or hot air balloon. I feel like I’m overlooking creative uses for everything else there—time bombs, stakes, etc. Sometimes I make a time-bomb sword (fun to lob into mining camps) but otherwise I am just drawing a blank on how they’re useful. Feels like these would make a lot more sense if the devices were collectible.

All that said, does anyone have tips on how to use the device caches? Given the relative repetitiveness of Depths gameplay in general, it feels like there’s a lot of room here to have fun, so I wanted to take inspiration from others’ experiences.
