Stressed about a false NC filed against me by someone at work
What follows is a long post, please be patient. I am in distress and I need experienced people to guide me.
For many years I was employed in the Fintech industry as a product manager. I stepped back from professional work and got into my family business some time back we winded it up and I managed to get a position again in a Fintech company as a product manager.
Something happened here that has me worried. Due to work related issues I got into argument with a lady colleague. It was a heated argument but I stayed completely civil in terms of the words I used. It lasted for maybe 10 minutes and then we both let it go. My other colleagues who were within earshot later told me that this person often gets into arguments in office, she has major family problems at home and is disturbed by it.
A day later I got a call from a police station where the officer told me that a complaint has been filed against me and that I need to visit the station in order to read and understand the complaint. I consulted my cousin who is a lawyer and he told me not to worry and just go to the station to hear out the matter. He made a call to officer, spoke to him briefly, and told me not to worry its an NC - non cognizable.
Upon reaching the police station the PSI spoke to me very very politely and showed me the complaint. The gist of the complaint is - that I regularly get angry with this lady at work and I threaten her with damaging her car, slashing the tires, and last time in anger I said I will burn her house down. I told the PSI that all of this is not true that there were witnesses at work. I got very upset and was on the verge of crying. The PSI was very polite and he told me that nothing happens of the NC, no investigation no prosecution no witnesses nothing. Its like a record of events that a person found threatening to her safety but no crime has happened. He did not give me a copy nor did he let me take a photograph of the NC with my phone. He let me read the entire document and asked me to sign simply stating that I have read this document and have been explained what is written in it. Then I left.
Later I spoke to my cousin (the lawyer) he told me that as far as the NC is concerned I have nothing to worry about legally. Then the next day I went to the HR business partner at work and I told her everything that has happened. She told me she will talk to her seniors and figure out what will be done within the company. She spoke to my boss and both of them approved work from home for me for a period of two weeks simply to make sure that the lady who filed the complaint and I are physically separated until they figure out what has actually happened. My colleagues at work later called me and told me that they all spoke to HR and gave a correct and accurate description of everything that transpired. Everyone spoke in my favour including other women who work in the office. HR has called me and told me that absolutely no action will be taken against me and for the sake of peace at work I should continue with the 2 week WFH.
As far as my employment is concerned, my mind is at rest. I will talk to my cousin and some other legal people I know to find out if an NC can be challenged or quashed. But right now I don't know if it is possible and how long it will take.
My question:
This all has happened just in the last few days. I am genuinely worried about the future. If in the future an employer does a background check what will happen, will they discover that an NC police complaint has been lodged against me? what are the implications of this on my career. I am completely ignorant about these matters and currently I am extremely stressed. Anyone with knowledge and experience of such things please give any comments or advice. Thanks in advance.
TL;DR - Someone filed a false NC against me in police station. I am concerned about future employment and BGV
