Spend on the Anniversary Event not really worth it

Spend on the Anniversary Event not really worth it

I bought the 1700 ticket Lucky Draw Pack ($150 Big Spend!) and the initial wings weapon ($10). I got the Wings Weapon to Level 32, the Badge of Plumes Artifact to Level 2 (one fragment short of Level 3), and the Moon Goddess Skin to Level 7.

Tried it on level 119 here (I’m not at high levels yet and this was my first big spend). The weapon is under-whelming to say the least. At level 32 it does maybe half the damage of nerfed Satellite Level 120.

I can’t see where the Moon Goddess damage is but the Moon Rabbits feel underwhelming and there is waaaaay too long a cooldown for Devour the Moon skill to be useful.

Anyhow, I regret spending on this event. Save your money. The biggest “win” for the spend was that it raised the level of my other weapons from all the smaller token prizes in the draws.

Ramen San Lincoln Park - Middle of the afternoon.

Ramen San in Lincoln Park has lunch specials until 3 and happy hour from 3-6. If you’re a hungry eater like me, the sweet spot is to go around 2:30-2:40 and grab the ramen lunch set ($17) and then after 3 pm order some fried chicken karaage ($7).

Does Count Bat “Free Revive” work on Instances?

Does Count Bat “Free Revive” work on Instances or is it only for level matches?

Wasted $15 on Zorro

I saw the offer to get Zorro for $15 and got him but I also have the permanent card and removed capsule. It looks like Zorro’s skill is literally only for capsule?

Oh well, lesson learned. Anyhow, to save you guys money - don’t get Zorro if you’ve paid for the permanent card and removed capsule from your weapon lineup. He’s fine WITH capsule but not much use if you skip using capsule.

Portion sizes at Honey Bear Cafe are HUGE

No one warned me that the Chib Club sandwich probably is four servings for “normal people”. The chicken and waffles were pretty big too!

Food was delicious. The coffee was so good my friends were looking up if they could buy k-cups from the roaster online. We also got a BLT which was yummy but I liked the Chub Club better. The sandwiches came with free soup too - French onion (decent) and Cream of Chicken (awesome). They also gave us cheesecake bites as an amuse bouche before brunch.

Note: my picture of the Chub Club is “deceiving” because the angle only shows half the plate - there are FOUR 3-tier sandwich stacks on the place.

Tiger Cry at Krung Thep Thai in Lakeview

$24 sounded expensive for an appetizer but then we got an entire steak which feels very reasonable for the price. There aren’t many places in Chicago where you can get an entire steak for under $25.

The steak was perfectly medium rare and tender and the spicy Thai sauce adds an ideal balance.

Edit: The steak was grilled but they had odd reddish/purplish-hued lighting in the back of the restaurant which is maybe why the picture looks a little bit grayish. The flavor was delicious.

Do rooms at Le Richelieu have a fridge or do they have at least have an ice machine?

Do rooms at Le Richelieu have a fridge or do they have at least have an ice machine in the hotel.

I booked a stay there and my buddy said they don't have fridges or an ice machine on site? I'm worried because with the summer heat, I like to drink cold water / ice water so having a fridge or access to ice would be very helpful.

Is there anywhere with rib tips on the North Side?

I live in East Lakeview. They used to have rib tips at my closest BBQ joint but it looks like they took them off the menu recently. Is there anywhere else near Lakeview to get rib tips or do I have to travel 45 minutes to other neighborhoods that are more serious about BBQ.

Bonus if they have St Louis Ribs or Beef Ribs too.

Chicago loses a Michelin Star: Atelier Closing

I’m very sad. Atelier was probably my favorite restaurant in the city. We went seven times last year and three times this year already.

Mexican - American Fusion gone very wrong

I’m not sure this is the smartest North American crossover food.

King of Wasabi - Wasabi and Black Truffle Cashews

These are literally one of the most luxurious and addictive snacks I've ever eaten.

By weight, they are 4% black truffles (more truffle than most "truffle oil") and almost 2% wasabi (added in 3 various forms).

The bad news.... they're priced like drugs and just as addictive.... $25 for just under 7 oz on Amazon.

We tried the Big Arch and it was enjoyable but not spectacular.

We tried the Big Arch.

My opinions: it’s definitely BIG with 1/2lb of ground beef. They actually didn’t overcook the 1/4lb patties either (mine had a little pink in them which is my preference but I know some people freak out on any pink in their patty).

I really liked the crispy onions on it.

I think the sauce is a little mellow - it’s similar to the classic Big Mac sauce but the classic has more flavor and tang so they should just used that. The sauce isn’t bad but they already had a better sauce in their restaurants IMO.

My pickles were a little limp. Crispier pickles would have been an improvement as well.

Overall not a bad sandwich and very filling. It’s definitely a full meal with just the sandwich for a normal person.

A bit pricey at normal price (about $10 after tax in my area) but I used a BOGO sandwich coupon so we got two of them for the price of one.

Hungry? Broke? Can’t sleep?

Go to Cheesies by Wrigley (3472 N Clark) and get $1 Wings until 3 am today (or any Wednesday).

I just went with 3 friends and am now feeling very happy with my belly and my wallet. Now time for a food coma nap.

Lincoln Park Happy Hours.

$7 Karaage Chicken at Ramen San. Then next door for $5 Wagyu Cheeseburgers (+$1 for the lettuce and tomato) and $10 for unlimited Parmesan Truffle Fries at Summer House.

We’re considering popping over to Sushi San for the Eggplant Tempura as well. Pretty sure it’s gonna be a Triple Feature :-)

What is the best handroll and why is it Uni Temaki?

I just ate this one minute ago and I feel like I could eat five more.

After seeing all the online videos of the cheese pull from Enzo’s stuffed pizza, I got to try it myself.

We had a small cheese pizza and a large pizza with sausage, black olives, and mushrooms. I’ll say, even with three toppings, cheese is by far the overwhelming flavor.

It’s definitely for people who LOVE cheese. It’s VERY heavy. I had two slices (with some wings as an appetizer since it’s 50 min to cook the pizzas). I’m feeling quite full.
