Leash your dogs people

I was riding my bike down lyman st this morning and a dog ran across the street from the sidewalk and almost got run over by me and two different cars while the owner looked dumbfounded. (edit: turns out this was not the owner) Just use a leash like you are supposed to and you can spare others the trauma of having to watch your dog get killed as well as potential injury

Shimano SPD Pontoon Retrofit

If anyone was curious about retrofitting the new shimano SPD pontoons, it is possible. I have a pair of Lake 2-bolt shoes and the part of the rubber that usually touches the ground/platform portion of the pedal was totally worn out. I was considering replacing them, but the uppers are still in great shape. So I figured there was no harm in trying to squeeze in the new shimano pontoons. All I had to do was take a razor blade and cut out some of the worn out rubber, and the pontoons went right in. I now have a replaceable pedal contact surface and these shoes should be able to last me much longer.

I saw a really cool looking bike on a car in front of me today. While googling “Sir velo” to look at when I got home, I almost rear ended him.

Elecom Huge Plus is excellent

I have been using a ploopy classic for a couple of years now, and while the trackball portion of it is excellent, I have always been left wanting more by the scroll wheel and buttons. So when I heard the Elecom Huge got an update with dynamic bearings as well as a better sensor, I decided to give it a shot. It's a huge (pun not intended) upgrade over the other elecoms I have tried, the tracking in wired mode is very fast and there is no noticeable latency (this has been a problem with pretty much every other mass-produced trackball I have used and the main reason I went with ploopy). The dynamic bearings are also great, they are not quite as free-spinning as the ploopy ones so the static friction is a bit more, but the plus is that they are much much quieter. They are somewhere between the ploopy and the regular huge in terms of static friction, probably closer to ploopy. The scroll wheel is much better than ploopy, there are no gimmicks, just a regular, smooth detented scroll wheel with tilt functionality. I also appreciate the quiet buttons which are all nice and light to actuate. The shape of the ploopy is still more ergonmic IMO, with more of a built in tent angle to it, but overall I am pretty happy with the huge. It's a big improvement over elecom's previous offerings. I am going to keep the ploopy around as a backup, as the open-source 3d-printable nature is still a huge draw, but for now I am going to daily drive the huge. Open questions are how long the bearings will last (I replaced my ploopy bearing for the first time after about 2 years), and replacement bearing availability. I know elecom has been pretty good about providing parts in the past, but you can't really beat ploopy's approach of using off-the shelf bearing units.

The original fizik antares was my favorite saddle for a long time. The gentle curve of the back as well as the mostly flat profile and wide flat nose always worked really well for me. I’ve since moved onto an ergon, which is better because of the center channel but I don’t like the shape as much, the wide part is too wide and it is not as supportive feeling

I have also tried all of the following saddles:
- vento antares: completely different shape. cutout makes things worse as the edges on either side are skinny and sharp. one of the worst saddles I’ve used
- antares versus evo: totally different shape, same issue with sharp edges
- tempo argo: better than the vento antares but too wide
- sqlab 612: used this one for a while, the front half is basically what I want but the weird hump on the back ruins it for me for longer rides

can anyone help me identify a saddle that is basically an original antares with a sensible (not knife-like) cutout?
