Looking for a “forever” game as a dad.

Hello,

I’m a dad with a lot going on outside of changing diapers and attending to the endless wants and needs of a 6-month old. As you can probably imagine, I enjoy the “me-time” hours between 9 and 11. Immensely.

However, I’m in a bit of rut: I can’t find anything that suits my own wants and needs. I am a gamer who doesn’t really like games with a strong focus on its story. My logic is, I’m better off spending the time I’d be doing that watching a movie with my wife. I also love a grind, which makes things even trickier given my circumstances.

I’ve considered a few games, Path of Exile 2, Warframe, and some single player games that I’ve seen suggest online. But thought I would take my dilemma to the sub for gaming suggestions.

Given what I’ve written here, suggest me some suggestions. Please.

All bias aside, which ARPG is best for a dad gamer?

Hi,

Full-time working dad here, with a bit of study going on. I get maybe 1-2 hours of play time a weeknight; 3-4 on weekends.

I’m a new dad and also recently graduated, so new to the world of full-time work. In my past life, however, I played all the ARPGs, MOBAs, MMOs. Loved Diablo, PoE, League, WoW - all the “no life games”. I’ve been away from gaming for a bit, as you can imagine, but am finally in a spot where I have a few hours to myself during the week and would like an ARPG to play when I can.

Ideally, the game of choice would offer me some chance of completing a build / end game each season. I fear that may cut PoE out of the equation, but I’m leaving it up to you guys to give me the best choice.

Thanks!

Okay, I get it now.

I’ve been a long time lurker here. Since when the game first released and I was looking for reasons to buy it, to today, where I have spent most other days looking for reasons to give it another go.

Today, on my third attempt starting over, it has finally clicked. I had the day completely free and spent 12 hours playing the game, and can finally say: I get it.

I won’t go into the reasons I wasn’t enjoying the game initially because at this point, who cares? What I will say is I haven’t been this glued to a single player game since Elden Ring, and Witcher 3 before that. This game plays how my 11-year old brain thought Skyrim did all those years ago. The exploration, the freedom, and everything in between. This game has now, strangely after 30 hours of absolutely hating my time before, become one of my favourite gaming experiences.

I just wanted to thank all of you here who share the same love for this game and have continued to “glaze” it on a daily basis. Without that drive to “see what all the hype’s amount”, I would still be stuck on trying to find a game that rekindles those cherished gaming memories, never realising that game was already in my library.

Looking for a game to play “forever”

I’m done with telling myself I’ll get through my backlog someday. I’m tired of not finishing single-player games because their stories don’t interest me.

I need a forever game. Something I can chip away at each evening after work for the foreseeable future.

I love a grind. I love relatively intricate systems. I love difficulty that can be overcome by investment. Unfortunately, a lot of these “forever” games are games such as WoW - which I used to love, by the way - but as adulthood compounds its responsibilities, I simply cannot commit to the social requirements many of these games require.

Hence my conundrum.

I’m seriously considering OSRS because on paper, it’s the perfect game for me. However, I fear the gameplay might be too point and clicky for me.

Anyways, I’d love to hear your suggestions.

Looking for a game I can grind a bit each night.

Hi guys,

New dad here that works 40+ hour weeks, with about an hour or two to myself each night.

I love lots of different games, but at this point in my life, I’m wanting a “forever” game that I can chip away at each night, progressing with no end in sight.

I’ve considered RuneScape, but apparently the game isn’t very interactive and recommended to play on your mobile too. Unfortunately, I am wanting a game that is interactive and min-maxing isn’t essential.

Thanks guys!

Looking for a game to grind for a dad.

Hi,

Fresh father of a 4-month old here, with about 2-3 hours of playtime a night.

I’ve been on the hunt for a game that I can grind each night and continually progress - not have my enjoyment shaped by FOMO, or unnecessary barriers that only the unemployed can break through.

Some of my favourite games are Classic WoW and Path of Exile 2, but I keep talking myself out of those because I fear I don’t have the time to contribute to be able to progress meaningfully. Same goes for Warframe and RuneScape.

I know the games are there, but I’m hoping someone can sell me on one so I can just play and stop talking myself out of it.

Thanks guys!
