How to be more motivated to do things

I find that I'm only motivated to do things when I am feeling anxious and stressed.

I am extremely ashamed to say it but yesterday I finally got the motivation to clean ( without relying on energy drinks) when I saw maggots on the floor and in the bin. I was cleaning for hours with no breaks for the first time ever because of how horrified I was in seeing maggots.

Usually, I have no motivation to do anything- even getting out of bed requires a lot of will power . Does anyone have any advice on how to be more motivated and have more energy to do tasks without relying on a crisis to happen?? I feel so ashamed of myself because I feel like such a bum and I really want to change my ways. I hate that I'm unemployed have no commitments but struggle to do one task- which is cleaning

Does anyone drink energy drinks before they watch lectures or they'll doze off

I find that I have to drink an energy drink before i watch a lecture or I will genuinely fall asleep. It'll be the type of sleep where my eyes are closed for like 30 minutes. And I also need to make sure I type notes whilst im watching as passively listening to a lecture will put me to sleep even with energy drink. Does anyone else relate?

How to study when u have no motivation

Basically I can only study when I'm feeling stressed. When it's early in the year, I have no energy and motivation to study due to how calm I feel. Watching lectures would genuinely feel like a chore. However , when I'm stressed I get more motivated to do better due to the stress I feel.

How to trick ur brain into having more energy to study.

How to have more motivation and energy to study

I'm an extremely lazy person. This year I had no other commitments apart from studying and I really struggled. ive been lacking the motivation to study. Personally, I study better when I am under stress. For example when a lecturer told me they were gonna test me on a module , I made sure to study everyday single day and the day before them testing me on Microsoft teams, I actually studied for hours due to how stressed I was and how I didn't wanna let her down. I believe it was the adrenaline that was allowing me to study. I also really wanted someone to study with this year to test each other on the content as that is a way I can be motivated to get through the content.but unfortunately I haven't found anyone which has made me less motivated

This year, I would go to the library everyday but I would lack the motivation to get through the lectures as I would find them extremely boring . Getting through the lectures felt like a chore which is extremely annoying as I know If I wanna do well in the degree i need to study everyday.

Additionally I cannot study without energy drinks. I always doze off while watching lectures so have to drink energy drinks to stay awake no matter how many hours of sleep I had at night. Even when I drink energy drink I have to type notes whilst watching the lecture or I will doze off. i don't wanna rely on energy drinks to study as people die from them

Does anyone relate and what have u don't to become more disciplined and motivated to study on ur own without external factors

dont meet criteria for ADHD- advice plz

Recently had an ADHD assessment via psychiatry uk (thought I had inattentive type) and didn't meet the threshold — assessor's reasoning was mainly that I don't forget major life events, only occasionally misplace things like keys/glasses. I do sometimes walk into a room and forget why I'm there, but it's occasional and doesn't majorly affect my life.

Despite not meeting ADHD criteria, I've been struggling a lot this year:

  • Can only study at the library, never at home: I've never been able to study at home — I have to physically go to the library to get anything done.
  • Intrusive rumination: When I try to study, I get involuntary, looping memories of embarrassing/cringey things I've done in the past — embarrassing myself, things like that. It's not about the exam or the task itself, it just intrudes. It escalates to the point of anger and crying, and it feels easier to just sleep than sit with it.
  • I have to physically go to the library and leave my phone at home, or I will not be able to even start studying
  • When someone talks for a while, even directly to me, my attention cuts out and I miss chunks of what they said. I find it hard to follow conversations with a lot of detail — it feels like too much information to take in, and I lose track.
  • I struggle to remember directions and even multi step instructions
  • Monotropic focus: This year my only real priority was studying (I live with parents so don't have to also cook/clean/work) and I still struggled to study this year. I would not have been able to study, cook, clean , and go to appointments. I find when its exam season, I dont help out with house work or go to appointments until I have finished all the exams
  • Even post-exam season, I have almost no energy/motivation to clean or do housework — have to force myself to get up and do it.
  • Not depression, I don't think: I feel happier than usual when playing sport and have more energy to do things
  • When watching lectures/making notes at the library, I constantly doze off — to the point I rely on energy drinks to stay awake.

do u think i should get a second opinion or what other conditions should I look into?
