Colon cancer while pregnant?

Has anyone found out they’ve been diagnosed with colon cancer while pregnant? On September 4th I had an Abdominal CT and ultrasound because I had been having worsening bowel symptoms and blood in my stool throughout the summer. They found a mass on my colon (my pre- CT pregnancy test was negative when that procedure was done). My doc wanted me to follow up with a GI and schedule a colonoscopy for biopsies, and seemed concerned about cancer because I have swollen lymph nodes also. I went in on Oct. 1st for the colonoscopy, and before they did my IV, they tested me and I’m pregnant.

They aren’t willing to complete the colonoscopy until I have an early pregnancy appointment to get cleared by an OB/GYN for anesthesia. I’m supposed to go to that appointment on Oct. 14th and am hoping to get cleared to get the colonoscopy, but of course all of my racing thoughts have just become so much more complex.

The very next day after finding out we are expecting, I started vaginally bleeding pretty heavily and we went to the ER. Ultrasound was inconclusive and they of course had no choice but to instruct me to wait for the passage of time to see how baby develops (or if I actually miscarried). I have been getting my HCG levels drawn over the last week and they are rising consistently, so my next step is my OB/GYN appointment to confirm whether the pregnancy is viable or growing outside the uterus somewhere.

My husband and I have wanted to get pregnant for a while now and stopped trying in August when I became painfully symptomatic with bowel issues a couple of months ago (since I knew deep down something was wrong and it wasn’t general IBS). This all just feels like too much. We want this baby so badly AND I really need relief. If my calculations are correct, I was actually pregnant for the CT scan on Sept. 4th (I believe we conceived on our anniversary August 30th), but tested a false negative because of how early it was.

I’m so scared that I will have to face a really horrible scenario of having to choose between myself and our child in order to get treatment if this is malignant. And if it’s not malignant, it is still serious enough that I need to get this mass out of my body. I am in so much pain every day, and I only expect things to worsen as the baby grows and my organs compact. Looking for anyone who’s willing to share a similar experience as to what their options may have been, and for advice on coping mechanisms for this torturous waiting period of the unknown.
