First drink recommendations

Hi all,

My friend is turning 18 next week and wants to try alcohol for the first time ever (never had any alcohol before) and so I’m organising a party and would like some recommendations on what she should try for her first drink ever! Thanks so much

Hi everyone,

I’m currently in my final year of a 3-year Bachelor of IT and I’m hoping to pursue a PhD in the future.

My university (non-Go8, Melbourne) offers a Bachelor of Science (Honours) with a major in Computer Science, and I’m considering applying to that since there’s a fair bit of overlap between IT and CS, and I should meet the requirements.

I called the uni to get some clarification on honours and that was fine, but I got a bit confused when asking about PhD pathways. I was told I’d need to do a Master’s by Research before applying for a PhD, but from what I’ve read on the uni's website for a PhD it says that a First Class Honours degree should be enough for direct entry. And I've also heard of many people going from bachelors to Phd.

So I just wanted to check:

  • How common is it got go from Honours to Phd?
  • What should I be doing now (last semester of my bachelor’s) and during honours to maximise my chances of getting into a PhD and securing funding/ a scholarship (e.g. RTP stipend)?

I’m thinking things like building relationships with potential supervisors, getting some research experience, maybe even aiming for a publication — but not sure what actually matters most.

(I am a domestic student fyi)

Would really appreciate any and all advice!

Thank you so much
