We have a lot of good young players. But, tonight, we had a young boy, who is 8 years old, come with his dad. He's been playing about a year and a half.

I got lucky to get two games off him. Also drew two..lost two or three. I won our first game, he thought he had won, he lost on time. He started to tear up and didn't want to play anymore.

His father told me he's tournament tested, has been playing a lot of rated tournaments. I ended up talking to him. Told him my story, when it comes to chess. He was fine after that.

We played again. I fell into a stupid rookie trap. I resigned. He's too good to blow that game. But, I think we have us the beginnings of a prodigy. He showed me a deep calculation he had done. Went about 8 moves deep. I was VERY IMPRESSED.

He then proceeded to beat three other members fairly handily. The games weren't even close. He didn't play our super strong players.. but he can definitely hold his own.

One of our members Mr. George kept calling him "The Kid." So, that's his nickname in the group now.

Very impressive for only 18 months of playing chess.

We head into the last week of April. 1/4 of 2026 is gone. Time is flying by.

We begin a new week, starting as we do every week, with a 'Combo' all-in gaming event at 'The Vic Tavern.' Always a fun time. We start at 7pm.

Tomorrow and Wednesday, we're back at Bruno's Pizzeria for our chess only events. We start at 5:30 PM both evenings.

Join us for some fun and friendly competition. The food is good too at both locations. What more can one ask for ? 😊

It's Friday !!! You know what that means. It's the Bayonne Chess Society & Club taking over Joe's Pizza time. It's where we get the biggest blend of kids/teens and adults playing cheaa.

The kids are showing excellent potential, as some are beginning to put the adult players on notice. The adults that enjoy working with the kids know that it's just a matter of time, before they start whuppin' our butts.

Thing is... can one of Bayonne's kids put Bayonne on the chess world map by becoming a Grandmaster.

Only time will tell.

New player or experiencwd player, young..old..are welcome. Just be aware that many of our players come from towns as far as an hour away. Add Joe's customers, and it's almost always packed. We've had many time where it's standing room only. .

We start at 7pm. Joe's is open until 3 am. Normally, we end at midnight. Often, we've been there until 3 AM Always a great time.

The latest video upload has our newest member from Jersey City. We have DOZENS of players from Jersey City, going up against The Chesster.

I happened to walk over just as their game ended. I looked at the position. Asked, "Why'd you stop?" "I won."

I said, "How??? He could do this." I showed them the move. They both looked at the position, and said, "Oh, you're right." I said, "You can continue from here or start a new game. But, it's not an immediate win in this position. It's not good, but it's not a forced mate." The player reaction was pretty funny.

Hoping Derrick, who came with Duquann from Jerswy City returns. Excellent player, who also like to work with players Most of our members are like that. So, he firs in perfectly. He said he's been looking for a club like ours forever. "I love the vibe.' Chess isn't that serious play for the love of the game and keep it moving.

Reminder, we're back at Joe's Pizza on Friday, starting at 7pm. It's been bustling there the last few months.

New week..new events.

After yet another excellent week of turnouts, and new members coming from all over... we start over at The Vic Tavern.

It's our 'Combo' all-in gaming events. Members being...we have...The Vic has ...games. always something to play. Whatever tickles a person's fancy is probably available, or discover that new tickle. 😊

We start at 7pm. Come join us.

We continue with chess events at Bruno's Pizzeria on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, starting at 5:30pm. If chess is your thing..you'll have plenty of opponents to choose from. We do play chess at The Vic too.
