AITA for selling my earrings and being upset with my mother?
I'm 20f, living away from my family. Keeping all names and stuff changed because yes. This post is written quite in frustration and sadness please ignore any mistakes.
This happened a few months back. For context, I live alone because of work. My family lives away and it's a struggle to be honest. I have a joint family consisting of 7 members and none of them are earning, only my father used to and he's now gone. I don't miss him as much, he was pretty much absent my entire life but he used to send money.
So now I am responsible for my entire family and truthfully speaking, it's too much. But here's where things get crazy. My older brother, a deadbeat man, a copy of my father, wanted to bring in his girlfriend. He wants to get married and keep her with us. He earns nothing, she earns nothing and they're hoping to "grow" together. The girl has no parents, lives with her uncle and aunt and they're basically trying to get rid of her so they are okay with it.
I told my mother that I do not support this and this is not a necessary arrangement and she agreed. However, this led to my brother moving out and starting to live with that girl. Due to this, the "society" people started to be mean to my mother and just overall made it quite difficult for her to live where she did. I told her she can live on rent, I'll do arrangements and it'll be fine.
During that time, she was sick, I was barely paying for everything as it IS a huge burden to suddenly have to support my entire family. But she needed to move. They wouldn't let her live and my brother didn't care. So I moved my mother, my little siblings and my aunt (who lives with my mom) to a house in a different city where some distant family lives.
What I didn't mention to my mother is that I had to sell my gold earrings for it. There were bills and I saw no other option, I needed money. My family has basically no savings, whatever we had, mom always gave it to dad despite him being the affhole he was. And she also secretly speaks to my brother whom I do not contact anymore. I can't blame her but she blames me.
She lashed out on me and said a lot of stuff about how my earrings were an investment and I could've taken loans or something. But I'm under 21 and I am already paying EMIs that my father left on us. I know I am in the right but it still makes me feel like an asshole because i sold my earrings and am not talking to my mother (for a bit) because she's angry about it.
So, AITA?
