Roommate accidentally put my comal in the dishwasher and now it looks like this with brown/red dust on it. Does anyone know how to clean it?

I know you're not supposed to put an iron comal in the dishwasher but I got this from an aunt yesterday and my roommate accidentally put it in the dishwasher without knowing. Is there a way to save it or clean it?
