My Shorts Used To Start At 66%+ STW — Why Are My Last 2 Shorts Stuck Around 40% Despite Strong Hooks?
Recently my Shorts have started behaving differently from before, and I’m trying to understand why.
About a month ago, I switched into a new niche (English Christian / mystery / dark curiosity content). Since then, my average Shorts usually get around 20K views, with some reaching 30K, 40K, and even 150K+.
In the past, when I uploaded these kinds of Shorts, the swipe-through rate would usually start high immediately (often 60%+) and then continue climbing as the video spread.
But with my last 2 Shorts, something changed:
- The views are growing faster than usual
- Likes, comments, and even shares are strong (sometimes better than normal)
- Retention is still decent
- BUT the swipe-through rate starts much lower immediately after upload (around low 40s) instead of starting high like before
Even on videos that are not about Islam comparisons, this is now happening.
Could this mean YouTube is suddenly testing my content with a much broader or colder audience right from the start?
Or is there another reason why my Shorts would get faster growth and strong engagement/shares, while the swipe-through rate starts much lower than my older Shorts in this niche?
