[Request] What is the minimum amount of water, in liters, that I need to water a 50 by 5 meters stretch of a two way asphalt road exposed to the sun, at the very least to ensure the road never dries out, during a sunny day with a high of 37°C?

My apartment is in front of an asphalt road. I was wondering how much water I would need to cool it down with evaporation.

The question is for a full day around july, 15th, in the south of france, at 43 degrees of latitude.

This is not a dense urban area, there are a few buildings around the roads, but there are at about 20m away from the road.

Since I don't want to waste water, I want to find the minimum amount of water so the road is never "dry".

What if I take this amount of water, and divide it by 2, 3 or 5? will the asphalt still be cooled down enough?

I omit how the water is put on the road, maybe from under, or from above.

Can cold be "stored" in my apartment if I run my AC at night?

My apartment is recently built, with good insulation. It's about 40 squared meters. It's also built in front of an asphalt road, in the south of France, which store a lot of heat. Nights are around 20C, 24C, days are around 36C, if not more. The insulation is outside.

There are people claiming that I should run my AC at night, when it's colder, to "store" cold during the night, and profit from that cold during the day, instead of running AC during the day.

I cut a thick cardboard plate, 2m by 10cm, added some cloth, so it's quite airtight when put on a sliding balcony window/door.

Do you really think my AC system will cool down the concrete walls, ceiling and floor to store cold if I run it during the night, by setting the AC to maybe 18C or 20C?

I am quite skeptical of those claims.

[request] With a freezer full of water bottles, running outside at night, how much temperature can be lowered in a small room, with a small or large freezer, during summer?

We all saw the DIY systems where people use ice from their freezer with a fan to cool down their rooms. It's impractical, because the ice is made inside the home, so the freezer still generates heat inside the home.

What if the freezer would be running at night outside instead, when the outside temperature sits around 20C 25C, to freeze water bottles?

Considering that room is well enough insulated already, and has one adult in it:

  • Is the night long enough to freeze enough water bottles at a lower enough temperature?
  • How many degrees celsius would it cool down that small room?
  • Is the freezer large enough? How many water bottles would be needed?
