JAKOB INGEBRIGTSEN RETURNS TO WIN 5,000M GOLD

After a long absence due to injury and Achilles surgery earlier this year, Jakob Ingebrigtsen officially returned to the track at the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

And the Norwegian champion’s comeback could not have been more impressive.

In the final of the 5,000m, Ingebrigtsen unleashed a powerful finishing kick over the final 50 meters, surging past his rivals to cross the line first in 13:15.29.

Etienne Daguinos – France – 13:16.09

Just 0.31 seconds separated gold from silver.

It was an emotional comeback for Ingebrigtsen after a long battle with injury. Even more impressively, he has added yet another European 5,000m title to his collection.

Jonah Koech has accepted a three-year ban for blood doping after atypical values in his Athlete Biological Passport — flagged around his 1500m win at the 2025 USATF Outdoor Championships. All of his results from July 30, 2025 are disqualified, stripping him of that national title.
