seam ring vs clicker for holding charms securely?

I wear a dangling charm on a gold huggie hoop earring but recently lost it because the clasp came undone at some point during the day. :( I had a hinged style hoop that clicks into place: https://www.looptyhoops.com/collections/huggie-hoops/products/14k-yellow-gold-wide-huggie-hoop-earrings-3mm (mine is not exact but similar).

I usually don't have an issue with this type of earring but I guess the weight of charm puts pressure on the closure.

I have ordered a replacement charm but I also want to replace the hoop with something more secure like a seam ring or clicker. I wear my jewelery 24/7. Two piercers have recommended a seam ring over a clicker, saying it would be more secure for this purpose, and it would have to be installed at a piercing shop. Anyone have advice or recommendations?

Looking at 16g, maybe 14g?
