Use Monitor Output Gain Bypass Button!
You all may already know about this, but I just discovered that there's a "Monitor Output Gain" button in Settings on UAD Console. I use an Apollo 16 interface. When I switched it to "Bypass", I heard a clicking sound from the unit indicating that it is physically bypassing the digital gain section. And, not to be the person searching for minute differences in things, but seriously it sounds way better without it... In particular, to me, it seems like the highs and lows are coming through way more clearly. I advise you to test for yourself - set the output gain volume to max so that, theoretically, it should be the same bypassed and on. Then A/B it purely bypassed. To my ears, with my system, it's really helping!
Of course, this is dependent on you having a secondary gain adjustment option. I go from the Apollo to a monitor controller, which has a gain knob, then to active speakers, which also have built-in gain knobs. For me it seems much better to bypass the UAD digital gain section and just reduce the volume using the speakers' built-in gain knob. Just wanted to let people know! Forgive me if this has already been covered.
