New textures for the SDK are a game changer for map creators

In update 1.3.3.0 the SDK was updated with new top-down orthographic map images. These can be added into the maps and projected as a decal texture allowing creators to see the fine details instead of the plain green and orange colours.

This will allow for more precise editing without guessing, exporting and testing over and over.

To simplify things I put together a tutorial and a package together of all the maps in the game so far so creators can simply import the ready to go decal without needing to set up and align them.

Creators can use this same feature to import images from other maps as a reference for remakes.

As part of the package I have included the full Redsec map.

  • Play across 15 night maps from the Custom Conquest Template V11
  • Night Vision Goggles are given to all players. Some maps are darker than others so use them wisely!
  • Features a backfill of 36 bots who are all equipped with tactical lights... apart from recon. Watch out for them!
  • No minimum player requirement to start

Note: The NVG can be bright, but this is currently a technical limitation in areas where it's not completely dark.

How to make night maps

The latest update 1.3.2.0 adds the ability to create night maps in Battlefield 6.

The feature is described as a screen effect but is much more than that, changing the entire lighting in the game.

​

The tutorial gives details regarding the feature as well as how you can enable it to any map in the game or to your own custom maps and how to make it dynamic each time you start a match.

​

If you simply want to play some conquest night maps I have put together a Night Ops experience you can play right now.

Portal now has night on ALL maps

As part of the 1.3.2.0 update Portal now has a night filter that applies to all maps. This is not just a simple filter but adjusts the skybox and lights on the maps.

You will now see stars in the sky, shops will have lights and torches will now have a use.

The demo attached is of a WIP custom map.

With it being May the 4th, I thought I'd share a an early WIP demo of a mode I'm working on that Star Wars fans might recognise.

It's still early days but the recent updates have made this possible including Static Cameras for cutscenes and being able to set the MCOM ownership.

This demo shows the conquest phase completing, a pre scripted animated heli that will then land, players board for additional time and then a cutscene starts that will track the heli and then activates the custom area of the map for the final assault phase.

What is Payload?

This classic game mode is known from many popular titles. One team needs to deliver the Payload to the target while the other team must stop it or push it back. Get close to the Payload to push it.

The more players that push the Payload, the faster it will move. There are checkpoints that will add additional time. Defenders can contest the payload and push it back to the last checkpoint. Attackers win by pushing the Payload to it's final target before the time runs out.

  • 6 Maps
  • Custom UI
  • Random weather conditions (On specific maps)
  • Silky smooth Payload movement
  • Bots that will play the objective
  • Scoring system for PTFO
  • Cinematic ending 💣💥

We are always looking for feedback to further improve the experience. Please keep in mind that we will continue to support this mode as new features and maps are added to Portal.
