I’m in grade 10. Art class is right before lunch every Tuesday and Thursday. My new friend “Sophia” and I leave art class like 15 mins before it ends to get a table for her friend group at the cafeteria. We’ve been doing so since mid-Feb. I don’t eat with her, and I only do it because I hate art class. We hang out for a bit then I leave a couple minutes before lunch starts because I don’t like some of the people in her friend group (two are in our art class).

Often we ask teacher to go to locker, washroom, etc. Sophia usually said her dad is picking her up, and I just sneak out.

This week, I started sitting at the next table because those people and I were discussing a project for a different class. I decided I would alternate between their tables and only sit with Sophia on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

So anyways… yesterday (Thursday), Sophia told teacher her dad was getting her. A couple mins later I left too. We sat at the table and chatted. Before the bell rang, her friends (who are in art class) came to tell us that they heard teacher CALL THE OFFICE and say our names.

I was about to run away from the cafeteria to my locker to meet up with my lunch group, when Sophia received a call from her dad. She was explaining the situation to her dad so I knew that the office calls her dad. Since Sophia said that her dad was getting her, teacher called office to confirm. I think she also saw I was gone and put two and two together.

Anyways, I’ll be missing Friday (today) Monday and Tuesday because of a family vacation. I’m currently on the plane. I am hoping that this will blow over. I asked Sophia if anything happened in art, and she told me teacher talked to her. She apologized and teacher said this would be put into her record?! I didn’t know what record it was, but teacher did not mention my name during their conversation.

I’m worried but teacher did not call my parents, and that’s likely because I just left class without telling her instead of lying about random stuff. Honestly, I am expecting to get into trouble but hopefully just with the teacher and not the office. I am thinking if she didn’t involve the office that day, she won’t go there a week later. I think the office only got involved because a teacher legally can’t let a student leave the school. The school has the legal obligation to “take care” of us until the school day ends.
