r/gradesharing

I think I’m a failure.
For context, this is high school GPA. I’m a grade skipper; upcoming junior. I have only taken regulars so far—I am taking IB DP courses for my upperclassmen years. My freshman year GPA was 1.67; first semester sophomore year GPA was 2.5; second semester sophomore year was 4.0. I was not able to get into a rigorous high school after middle school. I scored a 25/36 on the PRE ACT. I have scored in the 99th percentile in reading and the 93rd percentile in math, relative to US test takers of my grade level during the 2nd semester of sophomore year.
Does 12th matter?
Idk how my 12th is going so far it’s like I’m studying however in school exams I mess up like idk how I study well not like a day before exam it’s just either the exams in school come tough or I feel I’m not doing enough.. so genuinely asking do 12th result matter anywhere in college or like future..?
I’m in commerce with applied maths and I’m planning to either do BBA or eco hons. But still asking does 12th matter..?
Good grades and classes going into freshman year?
Honors classes have an extra 7 points attached. Took "Enhanced Algebra" (which is math 8 and algebra I mixed) in seventh grade and finished with a 99 in S1 and a 100 in S2 (weighted).
Taking in freshman year:
- AP Seminar
- AP Government & Politics
- Algebra II Honors
- Biology Honors
- Spanish II Honors
What do I need to prepare/adjust for?
Are my grades bad?
Look, I know my grades aren’t actually horrible but are they good enough to get into a decent college or enough to not have a huge effect if i get better grades in 10 and 11th? I’m currently taking summer school in chem and De art appreciation and have an A in both. I feel like i struggled a lot freshman year not necessarily because the work was hard but it was to easy for me so i just did the bare minimum and whatever interested me. I did no homework at all the only work i did was at school and i feel like that effected my grades a lot so im trying to improve. I was wondering if anyone can give me tips that helped them if they had the same issue with their attention span?
does getting 10+ wrong answers in written tasks (quiz, summative, etc.) can affect 95+ grades?
G12, F. i’m rlly grade conscious esp when it comes to quizzes and summatives and recently i reviewed for a long quiz rlly hard but i got 10 wrong answers (30/41) and our passing score was 30. im rlly worried that i might not get 95+ in this sub cuz ive been aiming to top this year. having low scores affect me sm to the point that i sometimes lose appetite or just stare into nothing, letting all negative thoughts consume me. plus the new curriculum makes me more anxious because it is zero-based grading. can someone help me break down how i can understand the grading system with some sample scores and grades and how i can maintain 95+ grades.
I wanna go to Cornell. Also how is general profile.

Stats as a Rising Junior in High School
Hello everyone! I have always been so curious about my own achievement and what I could do to up my chances of getting into good colleges. I see so many people posting their stats, and I decided that I should too since I am now at the halfway point in my high school career. I have not taken the SAT yet but plan to take it in August, plan to take the ACT at some point, and my school only let us take 1 AP in freshman year and 1 AP in sophomore year, but I also took an IB math class in sophomore year. I also come from a low income minority background, and I am not sure if that changes much. I have applied to so many summer programs as well since I wish to pursue a career in medicine, but I have basically gotten rejected from all of them :( anyways here are my stats:
GPA: 3.9 UW 4.2 W
Relevant Classes: AP World History (received a 5 on the exam), AP US Government (exam score comes out on 7/6), IB Mathematics Analysis and Approaches SL Part 1 (I take the exam next year, I received my FIRST EVER B in this class), Chamber Orchestra, and all the other classes I took were honors except for courses where honors dont exist such as PE and languages.
Classes for Junior Year: AP Calculus AB, Chamber Orchestra (yes, I have taken this every year since 6th grade and I have had the same teacher since then too so I think that would make a great letter of rec), IB Biology HL, IB English Literature HL, IB Psychology HL, AP Physics 1, and AP Stats.
I have taken a couple of summer courses as well but I am not sure if they are relevant, they were really for me to just get the credits over the summer and to have more space in my schedule during the school year: Economics and Personal Finance (taken rising 10th), Geometry (taken rising 9th), and US History (taking now/rising 11th).
My school also does an exam where you earn credits for any languages you speak fluently, and I took the exam in Mongolian and got 4/4 credits, and we also do a similar exam in our world language classes (Spanish), and I got the biliteracy/fluency seal for that.
Clubs: Planet Impact Society (founder and president - we plan to make recycling drives, clean ups, raise funds to plant trees or plant around our community, and much more), Model United Nations (Club Member), Math Club (Club Member). I should probably be more active in clubs....
Volunteering: Summer Camp Counselor (2 years; 240+ hours), Creative Arts Camp Volunteer (for my town; 80+ hours), Mongolian School Classroom Assistant (2 years; 96+ hours), Art Museum Classroom Assistant (48+ hours). I have applied to volunteer at my local clinic, and hopefully I get accepted since I feel like that aligns most with my future goals.
Projects: Make Mongolia Smile charity project (founder and organizer; supported a Mongolian orphanage in the winter, raised $500+), I am writing and illustrating a children's storybook (I hope to have it published this summer), and I am working with a group of other Mongolian teens across the US on a research paper (will be published this summer..hopefully??).
Internships/Jobs: I work as a mathematics tutor part time (2+ years), HSIP Medical Impact Internship (this was not really like an internship and was lowkey sad about that because I was really hoping for experience but we sort of just learned to read research papers and the pathways towards obtaining a job in the medical field - but I got into the program for free because of financial aid so...), and I was a teen intern for my town and got to oversee daily operations that occur within my county's government (i know it doesnt really align with my interests, but I took the opportunity). FYI I APPLIED TO SO MANY MEDICAL INTERNSHIPS BUT I LITERALLY KEEP GETTING REJECTED!!!
Awards (the ones I have received are sort of useless I feel): John Locke Essay Competition (Award of Recognition + $500 Scholarship for one of their summer programs), Golden Key Music Festival (Awarded Super Bronze), my county has these film festivals that intrigued me a bit, so I competed a couple years back (Awarded Top Film and Top Filmmaker), PTA Reflections (I won 2 Outstanding Interpretation awards at the regional level and 1 award of excellence in my state division), and Honor Roll (literally everyone gets this).
Please let me know how I can improve, I feel like I am literally trying my hardest to involve myself into things outside of just academics, but I just keep getting rejected, and that just breaks me :((
IS MY GPA RUINED FOREVER???
Hi! I'm starting my sophomore year in September but I'm currently at 3.8 GPA BECAUSE I GOT A B- IN ONE OF MY CLASSES. So are my hopes of a good GPA furthermore ruined since I'm a physics major and it obviously is gonna get harder now I'm just very stressed right now sorry. Can I get back to a 4 somehow?
My professor is a real G for doing this
93+ was an A, but I was BEGGING professor to open an assignment I missed start of quarter. Professor declined but ig because of how desperate I was, I got some mercy for final grade.
Aiming for t20 school.

overlooked, limited, disadvantaged??? + proud of my journey :)
this is more of a reflection post, but sophomore year was the best thing (academically) that’s ever happened to me. i go to a school that has a lot of the “gifted” and super smart kids, so literally 90% of the students in freshman year were in all places into honors and advanced classes(since we can’t choose classes freshman yr). on the other hand, i was not the same way. i always felt overlooked by so many people and teachers because i was never a gifted kid. freshman yr, i was placed in all general classes and a singular honors class (biology), which didn’t even count really because my counselor told me it was more of a “intermediate honors course” or a bridge to honors courses for kids who were “there, but not quite there yet.” (*lowkey destroyed my confidence..imagine being told u weren’t good enough for honors but not bad enough for regular classes??*🤨*, really added to my feelings of being overlooked…*). Anyways, like most students,(hopefully) i really care about balancing things like academics, extracurriculars, sports, etc., but u can imagine how these general classes limited my GPA because i didn’t have that weighted honors advantage as much as other students.
What im trying to get at is that despite being so limited, i tried my hardest in the classes that i had and excelled beautifully. I ended up finishing nearly every class with an A+, class rank of 24/263, and a GPA of 4.16. The 4.16 may not seem impressive, but in my school we run on a 4.2 scale for general classes, so i nearly maxed out the scale i was limited to.
During my freshman year, i became friends with all the kids that were in all honors classes, and they may have been good as friends, but these kids are brutally competitive + petty when it comes to academics. the amount of times i’ve been told by my own (fake) friends that i’d never make it to the top 10, make it into honors classes, or raise my gpa higher than a 4.1 is probably a billion.
now comes scheduling and nearing the end of freshman year, i was able to select ALL honors and even up to 3 AP classes (tho i only chose 2), again, despite being limited by my general classes. i told NOBODY my plans because i really wanted sophomore year to be my comeback (*and avoid the “sophomore slump”)* to prove everybody wrong. seeing my report cards, these courses gave me such boosts in my gpa, especially since i still maintained the grades i had last year. now that sophomore year is over, i ended up finishing every class with A/A+, ranked 9/263, and a GPA of 4.344.
I ended up higher than EVERY. SINGLE. PERSON that doubted me, talked shit abt me, and overlooked me during freshman year.
im cutting the story short, but this entire rant/reflection is about how i persevered and built myself up from a place where i was limited, disadvantaged, and overlooked. i’m sharing this story because i want people to realize that it truly is possible to turn yourself into a better person/the person you desire to be, even if it takes you an unusual route to get there. it may not be impressive to others because im sure there’s people that have like 4.7 GPAs here and whatnot, but IM proud of myself, and i hope there’s people that can relate + have gone through the same thing as me and are proud of themselves.
