What are the biggest red flags that tell you another lawyer is doing a poor job representing their client (without discussing any specific case)?

I have a lawyer who said he would get me to some specialist before I signed anything and its been over a year so I had to seek my own. Just wondering if I have a malpractice case. He doesn't keep me updated at all
