Anyone else wish there was Freeform functionality in the Journal app?

I recently started using Apple's Journal app in my transition from paper journaling to digital, and I really wish I could create journal entries with the same freedom I had on paper, adding pictures wherever I want on the page, arrows, text boxes with different size writing, etc. I've found that's basically the exact thing you can do on Freeform, but I wish I could do it inside the Journal app, alongside other "normal" text-only journal entries. Am I the only one?

Unable to wrap properties in calendar view?

Am I missing something here? I have a text property that just continues on beyond the box in the calendar and I want it to wrap. I can do this in every other view except calendar. The option isn't there. Is this right or am I just not finding it?

Will Muji masking tape damage my paper when I remove it?

There's the kraft tape and also the masking tape, not sure what the difference between them is. I'm wondering if they would work like washi tapes where I can remove them and leave the paper intact. Has anyone tried them before?

Issues with the last few cm of lead not advancing in the pencil

I'm having this issue where when my lead reaches it's las 2-3 cm, it will no longer advance and I can't write with it. I've tried putting another piece of lead inside to maybe push it out but that just ends up jamming the mechanism. It's really annoying because that means I basically have to throw away that last bit of lead, and that's quite wasteful (it's like 1/4th of the entire piece).

I only noticed this issue with my Muji mechanical pencil (the translucent plastic type). Is there a way to fix this? Does anyone have similar issues? Maybe it's just the cheap pencil, because I'm not sure I've experienced this before with other pencils, but it kind of defeats the purpose of buying a cheap pencil if I'm going to have to use more lead.

Minimalist(ish) journalers out there: what are your favorite supplies?

I say minimalist(ish) because I'm interested in more than just pen and paper, which would be true minimalism.

I've always considered myself to be pretty minimal when it comes to the supplies I use alongside my notebooks. (I do kind of hoard notebooks, though, but that's beside the point). In terms of the things I use daily, it's basically just a mechanical pencil, an eraser and a ruler, but I've recently incorporated a date stamp and I fear I might be falling into a rabbit hole.

I like the idea of "decorating" a bit more in my planner/journal, but I've never really done too well with color, whether it be pens or wash tape or stickers. It just adds another choice I have to make before getting into my daily routine when I'd much rather just use the same writing tool always and not have to think about it. The all-black/gray look doesn't bother me at all, I actually really like it. But I do really love the look of the date stamp and that made me think this might be something I could look more into.

Honestly, I just want to see how other people who like more of a minimal setup journal to get some inspiration. Most of the people I see online do way too much for my liking (good for them though!), so it's hard to really find things that I would like to use in my system. I just want to see more of my style out there. What other supplies do you like to use in your minimal setups?

High-quality mechanical pencils?

I've exclusively written with a 0.5mm mechanical pencil for years now, usually the cheap plastic ones you can find at office supply stores, and I’ve been considering investing in something more high quality since it's something I use literally every day.

In my research, I haven't been able to find a pencil that meets my criteria, so I was wondering if anyone who knows a bit more about mechanical pencils could help me out.

Here are some of the things I'd like:

  1. Metal body (or some other high-quality material; if it's metal, preferably silver-toned)

  2. 0.5mm

  3. NOT Kurutoga (it seems like it's so universally loved so I decided to get myself one but I HATED how squishy it felt to write with, the tip was so wobbly because of the mechanism, it was basically unusable for me)

  4. Retractible lead sleeve (I carry it in my bag when I go out and I don't like it poking me)

I might edit this if I remember more things I want, but yeah.

How do RFID-blocking cards work?

This may seem stupid, but I was wondering if using one would work for a very specific purpose. Hear me out.

I use a key card to access a building, and I always have to keep it on its own, because if I put it in my wallet with other cards and hold my wallet up to the reader, it won’t identify the key card and won’t open the door. (My wallet isn’t RFID-blocking.)

I was thinking, maybe if I put an RFID-blocking card in between my key card and the rest of my cards, then I could always hold the same side of my wallet to the door (the side that has the key card in it with the blocking card behind it) and that would “block” the reader from identifying all my other cards. So that way I could keep my key card in my wallet.

This might be totally off. Again, I have no clue how they work. But in my head I feel like it makes sense.

Non-Tomoe River Paper 3.7mm grid notebooks?

I’m a big fan of smaller grids since my handwriting is very small and I like being able to fit more on a single page, but I’m not a huge fan of how thin TRP is, and since I don’t use fountain pens, I don’t really have much use for it.

I haven’t been able to find any notebooks with a 3.7mm grid that don't use TRP. Or anything smaller than 5mm. I've been looking for an A6 notebook, preferably with an open-flat design and off-white/cream paper (basically the Hobonichi A6 Graph Notebook, except with pages that don't ghost as much). Any recommendations appreciated!

Are there any notebooks with 3.7mm grid that are not Tomoe River Paper?

I’m a big fan of smaller grid sizes since my handwriting is very small and that means I can fit more in one page, but I’m not particularly fond of the thinness of TRP and I don’t use fountain pens, so there’s really no use. I haven’t been able to find any other notebook brands that use 3.7mm grids. Are there any? I generally like more cream paper (as long as it’s not stark white) and the gsm isn’t really a concern.

Is there a difference between uploading and linking an image in the Files & Media property?

When you click to add a file as a property in a database, there are those two options. Uploading (or copying) and linking. Is uploading the file directly from my computer to the database going to make the database heavier than if I just link it from a website? Is one better than the other?

I just found out I could link an image and it seems so much simpler. Are there any downsides?
