Week 40: Cottagecore - Cream Biscuits

Two-ingredient biscuits!! Heavy cream and self-rising flour, makes awesome drop biscuits for almost no work.

Week 32: Gimmicks - Panera's Salad Stuffer

A kale Caesar with chickpeas, stuffed into a hollowed-out roll. Honestly, I'm on Panera's side, this is an objectively awesome way to eat a salad

Week 30: Science Fair - Sliders for Slides Night

Wife and I decided to host a PowerPoint night where everyone presents on a topic of their choice (which is my argument for the theme; intellectual presentations are very science fair! Ignore that one of them was just ranking the game of thrones characters by how many shots the presenter would need to bang them). To go along with the slideshows were sliders!!

Clockwise from bottom left:

- Garlic Bread and meatballs (in the pot, apologies for not having a picture) for meatball sub sliders

- pulled pork with homemade coleslaw on Hawaiian rolls

- classic Burger sliders, one set with smoked cheddar and another with gouda

- breakfast sliders - maple breakfast sausage patties, egg, and muenster cheese on mini everything bagels

- classic ham and cheese

- mini (imitation) lobster rolls

Not pictured: my wife also made homemade chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches as dessert sliders, which ruled

Week 28: Wild West - Pork Belly Hash

Going with the "sticks to your bones" interpretation from the intro post this week. My family used to make "cowboy dinner" of potatoes and eggs (and occasionally beans) so this felt reminiscent of that. Added a fresh salsa to sort of brighten things up, which really helped cut through the fat and potato!

[BitD] A Guide to One-Shots

Hi folks,

There seems to be a post looking for advice on running Blades oneshots every other month or so, and I've run several in my time as a Blades GM, so I thought I'd try my hand at putting together an answer. The guide focuses more on what to emphasize and how to structure your session for a fun experience, which I feel like is the hardest part of a successful oneshot. The target audience is new-to-early career DMs, as it seems like many one-shotters are, but I'm hopeful it could have something useful for everyone.

Here's the link - let me know what you think! Would definitely appreciate comments and feedback.

Week 27: World Cup - July 4th Fusion Tteokbokki (just add mini hotdogs!)

Decided to take the fusion approach for the week (wife wanted tteokbokki). Also pictured, gochugaru ribs, sous vide for 24 hours at 152 and then sauced and baked to finish.

Week 26: High-Fiber - Just Some PB&J Oats

I actually made spiced lentils over sweet potatoes for this week but the color turned out somewhat /r/shitfromabutt so I decided to go with my backup (not that it's much prettier). Blackberry jam, HEB peanut butter, flaxseeds, pepitas, and a few Chinese dates.

Week 24: Tarot - The Fool's General Tso's Chicken

The Fool is about new beginnings! Bought a new nonstick pan to make eggs in, happened across a Babish episode where he made general Tso's with a pan friend ground chicken nuggets approach. Decided that sounded like the perfect episode to try out my new pan on.

Unfortunately it is also the Fool because holy shit did this not turn out good. Chicken brutally overcooked before I got any browning at all, nonstick pan appeared to barely hold heat at all, even the sauce didn't taste like much. I haven't had a failure of a dish this abysmal since I started cooking (also referencing beginnings!)

Anyway yeah this was probably mostly my fault but damn it sucked

Week 23: Coffee - Cold Brew with Mango Fluff That Came To Me In A Dream

Literally had a dream where I was collecting mangos for a coffee mango whipped cream drink (they were conveniently just scattered around the ground in a forest). I've never heard of this in my life but I woke up needing to try it and it's... Fine? Not as yellow/orange as in the dream, probably too much whipped cream. Also could have put the mango blend through a strainer to get the little bits out. But the flavor is actually pretty solid!

Week 22: 15 Minutes Or Less - Steak Sandwiches with Arugula and Avocado

Holy shit do I love making sandwiches

- thinly sliced sous vide steak

- arugula

- avocado

- balsamic vinaigrette

- mayo

- dijon

- (added after the picture was taken because I forgot) thinly sliced red onion

Week 19: Tricolor - Imitation Crab Spring Rolls

"Crab", Napa cabbage, cucumber, bell pepper. Not pictured: Peanut lime dipping sauce!

Apologies for the bad pic! Cannoli dip is the center bowl with the chocolate chips. I hosted a Dip Night dinner party last weekend and forgot to get an up-close-and-personal pic of this one, so y'all will need to make do with the group shot of the dessert dips (the other two are Pumpkin Fluff dip and Key Lime Pie dip). My family is Italian, but I've never been to Italy!
