Prefab homes and granny flats
Hi all,
I'm looking at a property where I would like to add two buildings. I live in the Manawatū where there seems to be lots of prefab homes companies. Prefab seems like an affordable option that is faster than traditional building - does this seem right or am I way off the mark?
One building would be a prefab granny flat (under 70m2). This is on a flat piece of section that just needs some scrub bush cleared. Good road access. This would go on the property first.
The other would be a prefab 3 bedroom prefab home. This would be on a flat section up a driveway. The driveway goes up a bit of a hill with some scrub bush around it. This was used as access for another house built on the neighbouring section.
There are houses further down this street so connection to utilities should be straight forward. The area is residential. The buildings would not take up more than 50% of the land area.
I'm very early on in this process and would love to hear from people who know more in this space.
Are prefab homes actually rubbish?
Are there things that I absolutely need to consider in this space that may not be obvious?
Any companies that you recommend or don't?
Where there lots of hidden costs?
