Star Wars Style Queer/Sapphic Books?

Hi- I'm looking for books that have a similar tone and feel to Star Wars, or more particularly- the games (The Old Republic, Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor, Outlaws, etc.). Think interplanetary travel, maybe espionage of some sort, heavy world-building, integrated alien species and cultures + the dynamics/conflicts between species, space opera feel with medium sized-ish stakes, maybe some sort of market or bazaar scene, some blaster battles, and book specific slang... just all the fun stuff- anything that feels around these sort of ideas even if it does not contain all of them. I would like to see queer casts in the books if possible and clear sapphic representation- but beyond that I don't mind. I recently read Seven Devils by L.R. Lam which felt like a good example of this, and I would say A Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers also achieves the sort of feeling I'm looking for. Does anyone know any other sort of books that have felt or reminded them of the franchise? Hope everyone's having a nice week.

Sapphic Horror Creature Features?

Hi everyone, so I already posted this to r/QueerSFF so if the post looks familiar, that would probably be why. I realized leaving the genre open was maybe not what I wanted as much since I was getting a lot of cozy and romance recommendations, all which I appreciate- but I think I realized I am looking for something scarier- so I'm making an amended post here.

Anyway- I decided to theme out my reading months this year, and in order to get ahead of October am asking now. I want to read books with a prominent creature or non-human entity in them- some examples of this might be a vampire, a werewolf, an alien, a demon, a ghost, a Frankenstein-like creature, a fae, a mermaid, a cryptid, zombie, a bug creature, etc. Think Universal Monsters but extended into other creatures as well, non-defined and non-typical creatures are very welcome as well- if the author invented a creature that's awesome and recommendations like that are just as welcome.

Things I would not count as what I'm looking for is stuff like witches or human characters with some sort of change or curable infection that's happened to them that gives them a scary appearance or some superpower of some sort- I do not think I would count for example: 'The Invisible Man' as something that is necessarily fitting the criteria I'm looking for, nor a character that is bestowed powers by some entity- ie. someone is possessed, someone made a deal with a malevolent something and is wreaking havoc but themself is still a mortal person- caveat to that is though that if the creature/entity giving powers actually does show up in the story instead of just via a host. Powers for these characters would I guess mostly be given at birth or at death or if the character becomes biologically into something not human if that makes sense- they can have BEEN a human, but I don't want a creature who still is human.

I think the only human acceptable sort of creature for this particular prompt is if it's something like mass infection by a creature, where the 'creature' becomes more the epidemic rather an individual entity- the creature is the hive mind, not those infected. Hopefully that makes sense- but I'm not sure- an example of that would be: >!Cuckoo by Gretchen Felker-Martin!< (this is the closest example I could think of but it is a spoiler for the end of this book sort of so be aware before pressing) and I think Spread Me and You're Not Supposed to be Human also operate on that sort of idea maybe.

I'd would like books that are horror-ish or unsettling at least but any genre that is mixed with that is honestly fine and I do not have a preference on whether the creature is at the center of the story as a protagonist or is an antagonist- I just need that they are prominent within the story- not something that is mentioned in the story but never confronted. I am of course as the title says also specifically looking for these creature feature books that are prominently sapphic, books with at least A sapphic main character and/or side-plot romance even if it is sort of like a cast of main characters and different POVs. Anyways- I know this is a very lengthy post for something kind of easy to ask for- but if anyone has any recommendations it'd be very very appreciated. Hope everyone is having a good week.

Sapphic Creature Features? (sort of specific criterias)

POC characters in Ashley Herring Blake Books?

Hi, just wondering if any of her books contain POC characters in MC and/or in important side character roles. From what I could tell visually about the main characters from the covers of her books- they all appear either white or white passing. But within the actual writing I have no idea. I haven't read any of them but hear them extremely extremely often recommended and have been told they are 'necessary sapphic reads' from many posts on here and IRL and was just curious whether if you all thought her collection of books had fair cultural and racial representation.

Girls Like Girls Movie is Rated R?

Can someone please explain this to me? I haven't seen it and have heard it's been a little bit of a letdown so am not sure if I will- but from what I do know about it the rating sounds egregious- just from looking it up it says the basis is on 'some language and teenage substance use' but outside of maybe graphic depictions of addiction- since when has intoxication qualified a movie to be rated R?

I've never seen alcohol in a PG-13 movie be a problem, and I'm guessing maybe the drug use would be weed maybe (based on the music video)? But that doesn't feel overly like an 18+ theme either really, I feel like I've seen mild drug use plenty in PG-13/TV-14 productions... I know the book it's based on is YA, I heard the fight scene in the original music video was omitted- so unless this is just a case of a queer movie being rated more strictly I really cannot imagine what could make this movie rated R.

To those who've seen it- do you feel like it fits the rating or does it feel overreactive?

Is 'Strange Girls' by Sarvat Hasin sapphic?

Pretty much just what the titles reads. Had anyone read it? Is it just a close friendship or is the book intended to be sapphic? Goodreads' tags claims it is, but comments about the book claim it's platonic, I'm not sure which to go by. If the book does have sapphic elements: is it part of the main plot- a characteristic of the main characters or is it a minor plot point/ a characteristic of a side character. Any help would be very appreciated, but if possible please try to avoid spoilers.

Are books by Elle Mae/Eden Emory any good?

Hi- question to anyone who might be able to answer: I've seen a lot of books and popular series by this author- but I'm curious if they're any good or if it's just a case of an author who makes a lot of sapphic smut in a vacuum of not a massive amount of it existing.

I don't read a ton of erotica outside of one series I'm in love with, so maybe I just haven't had the best luck- but I struggle to find well written stories behind the smut that I click with- which is something very important to me when picking up any book. I love seeing the world and the relationships cultivated and prefer that over a heady amount of sex scenes. I tend to see the opposite prioritized which is not what I personally look for in picking a book/starting a series... is this author like that? Are the storylines in her series good? Are the characters well written and complex? Is the writing style interesting to read?

I'm mostly curious about the Contract Bound and Blood Royale series along with Hide n' Seek and Rat Race but am latently interested in all of them. How do they hold up to something like Court of Chains?

Does anyone know why 'Andromeda' by E.S. McLeod isn't available anywhere?

Just what the title says, I saw the book came out a couple days ago, went to where it's supposed to be able to be purchased and none of the websites either have it or list it as available. I checked Amazon even and the author's page lists no books, not just unavailable. I'm not really sure what's going on- it says it came out the 14th, does anyone know about this?

Sapphic/Queer retelling of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'?

Just wondering if anyone knows about a retelling or re-imagining of this that's more sapphic or queer focused. I feel like it would lend really really well but wasn't able to find any written works that have seemed to try it in my limited researching of the topic. I know on it's own 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' is already pretty queer-coded at least and that the BBC adaptation did a little something with it, but I wondered if there were something more modern and maybe more intentional with it- maybe gender bending/gender-queering some of the characters or something? I have been seeing a lot of queer and partially sapphic mythology and fairy/folk-tale retellings pop up lately- at least 8 off the top of my head from just first quarter of this year alone... and with Hippolyta literally being the queen of the Amazons and in other medias is portrayed very queer I feel like this would be something not terribly difficult to do, I'd be very surprised if it hadn't been done already... so I don't know- just wondered if anyone knew of a book or if anyone knew of one in the works?

I don't know what to say- that shit was so fucking cool, a gorgeous cinematic dude... I love when official creators of media make these artistic short metaphor-y depictions of their story. The music was amazing, the imagery was so interesting and well done, I feel like we got more of a picture of the emotional side of Song and Reed's mission line. It was the perfect finish to the story, such a beautiful way to wrap the story back together at the end and clear up any possible confusion about character's motivations. I hope in future projects by CDPR that they do more of these. I just loved it so much- all this is is an appreciation post- beautiful beautiful work, thank you to everyone who worked on that visualization (as well as the expansion and game at whole).
