What was this week

I made a post a few weeks ago about not letting this job get to me but...

WHAT WAS THIS WEEK? It felt like June. My body is aching and the mental load is piling up.

I find myself responding to classdojo messages AFTER WORK HOURS. Like 7pm.

I'm hoping its the typical October feel. I know in Oct I usually feel it, but I'm never able to recall the feeling.

Please tell me in not the only one.

I'll be back to having boundaries after Nov.

Let me rant 🤪

Clinic

Anyone know of a good medical clinic where everything is in one building? It's draining going from one location to another and then waiting on referrals.

Somewhere with physical, bloodwork, ultrasound...etc.

I also have the free insurance. I think Emblem Health.

Ethnicity

This is going to sound crazy or all in my head.

I'm the same ethnicity as the students in my school. I'm not that young, 32. I've been at the school for quite some time...about 7 years.

Sometimes I wonder if parents (elementary) would prefer another teacher? I sometimes feel like they may think I'm unqualified or too young compared to others. I'm actually the youngest in my school. Everyone elses' ages range between 50-55. So thats a big gap. The second youngest is 38 years old.

Anyway. If you are a parent, do you view your child's teacher a certain way? I usually have parents say, "I wanted Maxwell to be in your class" or something like that. Then there are other times that I feel maybe, just maybe they may want a teacher of another ethnicity?

Idk.

How do you view your child's teacher? How do you think parents view you?

It doesn't matter because it's all about the child, however, I can't help but wonder.

This job will not make me ill

Practicing my 'no stress' idea this year. I left at contract time, came home and made a tuna sandwich, now on my couch watching a movie.

Already prepped and planned for tomorrow. Whatever else needs to get done, will get done in the morning. I will continue leaving at contract time. I refuse to let this job make me physically ill.

ETA- Then took a long, calm, and peaceful stroll around the neighborhood.

Going to set up

Anyone going to set up this week?

I'm so 50/50! I don't want to use my last days of Summer to set up. I was thinking to go in the morning for 2 hours, 10-12pm, but I don't want to use my slow, peaceful morning 😅

Next week, I know I will be drained the day of set up, which would most likely be Wed.

What are you guys doing?

ETA- I just seen a post on social media regarding the UFT. Apparently both days are now PD days???

New Principal and Observations

My principal is retiring early in the school year. He usually observe teachers for 2 periods. Yes. Two periods per observation.

Anyway, I'm wondering if this is the norm? I'm curious to know if the new principal will upkeep these long onservations or just do 15 mins.

Another tenure question

When do we hear about tenure?

I know I have tenure because I completed the comprehensive employment verification. My tenure was granted 2 months ago. Also, my chapter leader told me I am now tenured. Still haven't heard anything from admin. Therefore, I still don't want to celebrate before hearing from admin.

A co work told me our principal called her during the Summer for her tenure.

A few other coworkers said they didn't hear anything. Two years later, they joke and say theyre still unsure and waiting on admin.

Annoying Teacher Friend

I have a teacher friend who is so damn negative.

At one point, we were very, very close.

I supported him in many ways.

Everytime we talk, it's so negative. If I say something positive, he tries to make it about himself, then turns it negative.

For example:

Me: Wow the weather is great today!

Him: eh. It doesn't really matter to me. I have to do xyz when I get home. I'm dreading it. That reminds me I also have to do ABC and I'm dreading it.

He also has a very depressing tone when saying these things.

Another example:

Me: I had a great weekend! I was able to do XYZ.

Him: My weekend was horrible. I'm always by myself and always alone. Then I have to do XYZ.

Me: Aw. Well I hope you're able to find sometime to relax.

Him: Relax? All I do is be by myself. I have to take care of xyz, abc, 123.

These are just examples of a typical in person conversation.

One day, he asked me something and I was sharing good news about myself. News that I've been waiting to hear about. He STILL made it about himself and turned the entire conversation into a depressing convo!

It's not like I don't ask about his life. We talk A LOT about his life. Anytime I bring positivity, he turns it into a depressing conversation.

Now I just avoid him. However, we work at the same school.

How do I politely say hi and that's it? When I'm in my classroom afterschool, he comes in. He'll try to talk to me and I tell him I have stuff do finish. Then he would STILL linger and begin talking about how horrible his life is.

Yes, I understand that people sometimes need someone to vent to. However, this is everyday. I even stopped replying to his text messages.

He just texted me and said: I hope you enjoy your holiday weekend. I know I won't because it's just me in this house. My life sucks.

He's also 25 years older than I am. It's kind of frustrating at this point.

We work at the same school, that's why I'm posting under Teachers.

Low wait times? August?

Is the last week of August a good time for Universal?

I'm a passholder and go every month throughout the year. I usually avoid July and August. I've been looking at wait times these past few weeks and they're pretty low!!

Wondering what August is usually like?

Thinking of regular lines + low wait times (if things remain the same) if it would be worth it..

Also, I know many kids head back to school in early August.

Discontinued without notice?

Saw my school opened a position for a position that is already filled.

Is it possible someone could be discontinued without a conversation with Admin?

It's my friend's position and he said he doesn't know of anything. However, he's the only one licensed in that area.

Is it possible they might discontinue him during the Summer? He's been working 6 years and the principal extends his tenure each year.

ETA-- I just realized I posted the same question about him last year 🫠 lol.

Tenured!!

Received tenure on 4/15/26!! :)

I did a Comprehensive Employment Verification through HR Connect.

Will I have 2 observations next year?

My original hire date says 3/8/18 (was a sub)

I'm wondering if I'll have 2 observations next year or still have 4. Can admin pull a fast one and tell me 'they haven't heard anything' and try to give me 4 observations? Perhaps they think I wouldn't know?

District visits

We had our district visit 2 weeks ago.

Some teachers were visited while others weren't. This typically happens.

What would be a reason for one teacher to be visited 2x in 1 school year?

Some strong teachers are usually visited. There's a new teacher who was visited the 1st and 2nd time the Superintendent office came.

Why could this be? What is the reasoning principals may lead them to certain classrooms?

I've been visited before, but never 2x in one year. I was also untenured at the time.

When do you find out who made tenure?

Would April submissions be in by now?

My friend said his chapter leader told him he received tenure, even though his was submitted this April.

According to the CL, the CL had a meeting and my friend's name was on the seniority list.

I'm awaiting for my results.
