Pesticides

Can ethical vegans eat food that has been grown with pesticides? If they don’t want to harm animals/insects with their dietary choices, shouldn’t that logic apply here?

Favorite YT channel is now engaging in criticism of neurodivergence and the RSD is hitting hard…

In addition to this video, there have been a handful of TikToks with the majority of comments in agreement with her sentiment and now I’m stuck in a loop wondering if people will ever really understand us. I’ve unfollowed and know the internet can simply be a toxic place so it’s probably time to tune out more. Just disappointed by a creator who I’ve found to be supportive for many years.

Are you also anti-blunt ends?

Does anyone else actually prefer wispy textured ends? Most hairstylists will try to steer me away from layers because it takes away from the perimeter but I assure them that I’d rather have the movement and volume than thicker ends. It’s been hard to explain until I realized this!

Decentering Men & Performing Femininity

I want to share some musings on feminism/gender baggage and AUDHD to see if anyone else relates. For context: I’m cis, AFAB, high-masking, 34 yrs old.

Morgan Foley made a YT video on performative femininity about a year ago and I haven’t stopped thinking about it about it since.

Growing up in the Midwest US, I was trying to follow the “girl rulebook” based on media and the culture around me. I saw the way other girls achieved social capital through male approval and tried so damn hard to emulate the same behavior but it never worked for me. I had no interest in dating or sex but thought having a boyfriend would finally make me feel valuable.
I also inherited alot of misogynistic beliefs from my mom (probably also neurodivergent) who struggled to connect with other girls and feel a lot of remorse for cattiness that I engaged in.

It’s so refreshing to hear women talk about the importance of female friendships and decentering men now but it also makes me regret operating that way as a tween/teen/young adult because I didn’t need to. It almost feels like…grief?

I could go on about this for ages but just wanted to open the door for a discussion 😂

Hitting a wall with activist friend

Looking for a safe space to ask this question because I don’t dare ask in r/vegan 😂

I’ve been getting to know this friend for a few years and we have a lot of interests in common but one of our differences is that she’s vegan and I’m a flexitarian (formerly vegetarian for over a decade with a few vegan stints). This doesn’t sound like a big deal but I’ve come to learn that she’s quite rigid in her lifestyle and easily offended. I’ve never challenged her beliefs and always accommodate by providing vegan options when hosting or dining out at vegan friendly restaurants but I’ve started walking on eggshells as to not upset her about certain topics or create for awkward tension. For example, if I mention something non-vegan in conversation (eating dairy, going to a fair or zoo, cooking eggs for breakfast, dating an omnivore, etc) she goes deadpan, looks away and doesn’t respond. This is probably her alternative to arguing or expressing outward disapproval but it’s still super uncomfortable and I feel like I need to withhold a part of myself around her. Has anyone else made it through a relational struggle like this or do you think it’s just a ceiling that you can’t go beyond when someone is so devout in their beliefs?
