Darjeeling Today📍

Darjeeling, known as the "Land of the Thunderbolt" (Tibetan: Dorje-ling), was originally part of the Sikkim kingdom, inhabited by Lepchas and Bhutias. Following Gorkha invasions in the late 18th century and the 1815 Sugauli Treaty, it was ceded to the British East India Company in 1835 as a sanatorium. The British developed it into a famous hill station and major tea-producing hub.
