Nice trout on Lough Owel

3.5lb 57cm trout, I wasn't even out for fishing. I was shaking down a new engine and the rod was there so I did about 5 mins of trolling with a tassie and boom, my PB for the yeae

Finally got a half decent trout anything on Lough Owel today. There was a bigger one but he broke my line so I can't count that one!

Spock slap

In the recent episode Season 4 ep3, Kirk slaps Spock in the face. In the next scene Spock has a red mark on his face. Given that Vulcan blood is green, would he have a red mark on his face or should it be green. This also makes me think what colour he would bruise since humans bruise green with red blood.

I can't screenshot Paramount plus but the scene is at 48:50

Finally broke the dry spell

I've been fishing lakes, rivers and canals for over a year now with no catches. I fish from the banks and a boat.

By chance last week I spotted Lough Iron on the way back from fishing on the inny and decided to go last night. 3rd cast and I catch this little but beautiful pike, he was only about 1/3 lb and 9" long but I felt like I'd caught the Lough Ness monster.

Hopefully I have it worked out now but it's been hard to stay positive

Waders

Hi all, I know this is probably more of a boating question given my application but as the cold weather will surely come this year I need to pick up a pair of waders. I currently launch the boat wearing shorts but want to grab some waders. There seems to be tonnes of options and I just want something to keep me dry on the launch and be comfortable enough to wear during a few hours fishing from the boat. Any suggestions that won't break the bank?

Engine height

Hi all, I recently changed boats and had to pick up an engine to suit. The previous guy said his was a long shaft and I stupidly took his word. I've been getting pretty low speeds and bad milage from a Yamaha 9.9hp which I thought would push a 15ft dory fairly handy. This morning I decided to measure and the cavitation plate was about 200mm(10in) below the keel.

I have manufactured a very strong and reinforced transom riser to get me up 180mm. I will try to get out later but would the community here think I'll see much improvement?

Yamaha 9.9 to 15hp

Hi all, I have a 1991 Yamaha 9.9c 2 stroke. I've watched multiple videos where they are converted to 15hp but different articles and interactions with AI say that some just need the reeds widened, some also need new jets or a full replacement carb, other suggest that the throttle limit needs tweaking and other say all of this is useless unless you also change the prop. Has anyone done this upgrade to this model? If so what changes did you make and was it worth it?

Getting disheartened

Hi folks, new here. I've been fishing for just over a year on Lough Owel and this month started on Deravaragh too. In all that time I have caught 1 tiny trout. I don't know where I'm going wrong. I've tried all kinds of spinners, spoons and soft baits. I tried flies for a little while. Morning, day and evening out til dusk, I just cant seem to crack it. Can anyone offer any advice at all?

Edit: fishing from a boat, I should have included this important detail!

Electrolux Archimedes E30

Anyone know much about these old Archimedes engines? I was given this one by my father, he's had it longer than I've been alive (I'm 42). From what I can gather it's a1968-72 model, 2 cyl 2 stroke but in a 25:1 mix. I checked and it has good compression 100(t)&(b)95. One of the coils is broken but I think they are easily replaced

Thoughts on HDPE hulls

Hi all, I currently have a 14ft converted sailing dingy, it's built like a centre console over the keel and is a decent little boat but there isn't much deck space.

Jon boats aren't very common here in Ireland but someone has one for sale fairly local to me but is a 14ft HDPE boat, he's looking for a touch over €3k for it boat only, no engine or trailer. The boat is 2025 and he claims it has never been in water.

Any advice?

Hi folks really stumped here. I ran a centre console last summer no issues. This year I was test running the outboard when the control box stuck in forward. I stripped it down and the rear cam was damaged in the back. It was 25 years old so I wrote it off. I bought a new box and changed the lines to be safe. Put it all on tonight and went to test. Rolled into forward, throttled up and wouldn't come back. Stripped it and the same. I don't know how to resolve this and does anyone know if I can but the cams as a spare rather than a whole new box?

I have been working on the bandit and the engine is pretty rough. I have cleaned some of the covers back to a good finish but Im concerned the block is not going to come back as good. Should I get it as good as I can and be happy, put some kind of clear coat to protect or paint the engine. If painting, what is the best product to use?
