Feeling unsafe as a niqabi in Dallas
Salaam everyone! I have been wearing the niqab for the past 4 years alhumdulilah. There has been an incredible rise in Islamophobia in the Dallas area and it’s been terrifying . Sometimes I wear a mask so I don’t stand out too much, but it honestly hasn’t helped. I have had people come up raise their voices at me, call me all sorts of names and be intimidating.
I’m usually with my little children and I’m worried that I am putting them in harmful situations. I have a couple more niqabi friends who have also experienced unsafe situations in and around Irving and Frisco areas mainly.
I am contemplating removing my niqab primarily for safety reasons. I fear my niqab is bringing on more unwanted attention than if I just wore a proper hijab.
Are there any niqabis around in the DFW area also experiencing what I’m going through? I am terrified that all this verbal abuse and intimidation will turn into something physical one day
