I started thinking about how much of my Google Photos storage is actually made up of photos I care about.

Photos of my kids, family, friends, holidays, birthdays, random moments I want to remember years from now? Absolutely.

But screenshots? Memes? Random images downloaded from WhatsApp? Images from apps? Huge videos that I probably won't watch again?

Not so much.

And that's when I started thinking: maybe 15GB of Google Photos storage is actually a lot if you only use it for the photos that matter.

The problem is that Google Photos makes backing up everything incredibly easy. That's great, but sometimes I don't want "everything" in my Google Photos library.

So I built a small Android app called SyncPhoto to give me more control over what gets backed up to Google Photos.

The basic idea is pretty simple: Only back up the photos you actually want to keep.

By default, SyncPhoto focuses on your camera photos. You can review them and sync them to your Google Photos account. It doesn't have to upload every screenshot, meme, WhatsApp image, or random picture sitting somewhere on your phone.

You can also add additional folders if there are specific folders you do want to back up.

For example, I might want:

  • Camera photos
  • Photos from a GoPro folder
  • Photos edited in Snapseed
  • Photos from another specific folder

But I might not want:

  • Screenshots
  • WhatsApp images
  • Downloaded images
  • Temporary files
  • Videos

There's also an exclude filter using wildcards, so you can do things like Screenshot_* or *.webm and keep those files out of the backup.

And this made me rethink videos too.

Do I really need to use my Google Photos storage for every large video?

For videos I want to keep but don't necessarily need mixed into my photo library, there are other options. For example, I can upload them to YouTube as private or unlisted and keep them there without using my Google Photos storage.

So for me, Google Photos can be reserved primarily for the things I really care about: photos of my kids, family, friends, trips and other memories.

If I do want to back up videos through SyncPhoto, that's supported too. You can set video limits for minimum/maximum file size and minimum/maximum duration.

That's useful because I can basically say:

Background sync

Once enabled, SyncPhoto can continue syncing while the app is in the background.

Visible upload progress

Instead of wondering whether something is happening, you can see which photo is being uploaded and the progress, and you can stop the sync if you want.

Folder-level control

Camera photos are always included, but you can choose additional folders individually.

Privacy

The app is basically a bridge between your phone and your Google Photos account. I don't want to build another service that stores everyone's photos. The photos go to your own Google Photos account.

The idea behind SyncPhoto isn't really to replace Google Photos. I actually like Google Photos.

It's more like a selective backup layer for Google Photos.

I think there's an interesting assumption around the free 15GB Google storage: that it's automatically "not enough".

Maybe it isn't enough if we're uploading every screenshot, meme, WhatsApp image, downloaded picture and giant video.

But if that 15GB is reserved for the things we genuinely want to preserve, it can go surprisingly far.

I'd rather have 15GB full of photos of my kids, family and friends than 15GB full of everything that happened to be on my phone.

I built SyncPhoto for myself around that idea, and I'm curious whether anyone else has the same problem.

I built a Gantt chart tool because I got tired of formatting Gantt charts in spreadsheets

I kept running into the same problem with Gantt charts.

You start with a perfectly normal project tracking spreadsheet, then suddenly you're spending hours formatting cells, adjusting columns, writing formulas, setting conditional formatting, and fixing the layout every time something changes.

At some point I thought:

Why are we managing the Gantt chart instead of managing the project?

As project managers, we should be focused on planning, tracking progress, managing dependencies, and keeping the project on track.

The Gantt chart should just be the visualization of that data.

So I built a small tool around that idea:

Take the project tracking spreadsheet you already have, select the data, copy it, paste it into the tool, and the Gantt chart is generated instantly.

And privacy was important to me too. Your project data isn't uploaded to a server. The visualization is rendered locally in your browser.

The basic idea is:

You maintain the project tracker. The tool handles the visual layer.

There's also a Premium option for people who want a more automated workflow. It can connect directly to Google Sheets, so you don't have to copy and paste your data anymore.

There's even a Netflix-inspired theme that gives your Gantt chart a dark, streaming-platform kind of vibe. Because apparently project planning doesn't have to look like a boring spreadsheet from 2007. 😄

I've been generating dozens of short ads from the same B-roll. Would this actually be useful?

I've been experimenting with a weird workflow for making short form ads and now I'm wondering if I'm the only one who needs this.

My biggest frustration with video editing tools is that they're great for making one polished video, but they're not optimized for making 20 or 50 variations of the same ad.

Here's what I've been doing.

I keep a library of product B-roll clips. Each clip has metadata describing what's happening, like "pouring coffee", "close-up of texture", "before and after", "hand holding product", etc.

Then I let AI generate different ad scripts based on that metadata. It creates different hooks, different angles, different CTAs, and different narration. AI also generates the voiceover, then another workflow mixes everything together into finished videos.

The interesting part is that I built and tested this workflow entirely on Android. No desktop editing.

The final videos reuse the same B-roll library, but the messaging changes, so I can produce dozens of ad variations from the same source footage.

I'm curious if anyone else has this problem.

If you're running paid ads or working at an agency:

  • How do you currently make lots of creative variations?
  • What's the most repetitive part of your workflow?
  • Do you keep rebuilding videos from scratch or do you already have a system?
  • Would something like this actually save you time, or is there a better way you're already using?
  • If this solved a real pain point, what would feel like a reasonable monthly price?

I'm not trying to sell anything. I'm just trying to figure out if this is a real problem or if I'm solving something that only annoys me.

I automated my entire short-form video editing workflow on an Android phone using Node.js + FFmpeg in Termux

I make 20-30 TikTok/Reels product review and travel videos per day. No PC, no Premiere, no CapCut timeline dragging. Just my phone.

The setup

  • Android phone running Termux
  • Node.js + Express (web UI)
  • FFmpeg for video processing
  • ChatGPT/Gemini for scriptwriting
  • TTS for voiceover

How it works

  1. I have a catalog of all my B-roll clips with descriptions (JSON metadata)
  2. I feed the metadata to an AI → it writes a script and picks which clips to use
  3. TTS generates the voiceover audio
  4. I paste the structured JSON into a local web UI on my phone and hit Generate
  5. The system validates files, assembles video with zoom effects + audio overlap, outputs to gallery

Time per video went from 35 min to under 5 min.

The key insight

Every short-form video follows the same structure: hook → problem → solution → features → CTA. The only variables are which clips and what narration. Everything else (zoom, timing, transitions) is mechanical and automatable.

Technical bits

  • Slow zoom-in (Ken Burns) on every clip for that "professional" look
  • Audio overlap between sections (300ms configurable) eliminates dead air from TTS
  • Random start position in clips so repeated use of same footage looks different
  • File validation before processing — catches AI hallucinated filenames
  • termux-media-scan so output appears in gallery immediately
  • Runs on localhost:3000, web UI accessible from phone browser

What surprised me

  • FFmpeg handles 1080x1920 encoding on a phone better than expected
  • AI is actually better at matching clips to narration than I am manually
  • The 300ms audio overlap trick makes concatenated TTS sound natural instead of robotic
  • Zero cloud costs — everything runs locally

Who this is for

Anyone producing repetitive short-form content: e-commerce sellers, travel creators, affiliate marketers, social media managers. If your videos follow a pattern, you can automate the assembly.
